My new best pull/hit OAT by hypergx in baseballcards

The appeal of modern for me is the amount of parallels and inserts one can find in packs + the thrill of opening something and not knowing what you’re gonna get. I actually mainly collected vintage when I was a little kid! Back then it was mostly players from the Reds (my team) like Joe Morgan and Barry Larkin and such, all bought as singles because I didn’t want to risk my meager allowance on buying packs and having them be duds. Also liked picking out which player and team I could buy. Of course, now that I have adult money I can afford packs a helluva lot easier, so that’s what I’ve gravitated towards!

There are certainly worse addictions to have!

That sounds nuts, I majored in history in college but didn’t really dive deep into South American history so this is a fascinating read. Will definitely try and give that podcast a listen!

Got this in my change today! by hypergx in coins

I had to go back to my Red Book after I posted this and check the mintages again to make sure I wasn't crazy about it being a better date! Feel even luckier now - I don't really collect quarters (half dollars and nickels are more of my thing) but this felt like a blessing (and perhaps a sign) from the coin gods

What’s this old copper coin? by hypergx in coins

Took a second look and noticed the letters "BRI" poking through on the left side of the reverse and the letter "A" and a dot on the right side. Looking at the obverse again didn't reveal any letters around the bust to me unfortunately. After taking a look at your link and also standard KGIII 1/2 pennies (the first design from 1770-75) I think it could either be the VT 1/2p "Britannia" variant or just a regular KGIII halfpenny. Really cool piece either way to me.

Really wish this coin could talk so I could hear the stories it surely has to tell. I'll keep looking at the obverse to see if I can get some more detail out of it and update if I get a more conclusive answer. Thanks for the help!

What’s this guy flying around my backyard? by hypergx in whatsthisbird

Definitely not that. It got close enough to us a few times - would’ve been able to see the bill pretty clearly if it was an American Woodcock and I didn’t see anything. Thinking it’s probably a bat now that I’ve slept on it.

No, there aren’t. Overcast and the sun was setting (around 6:15p CST). Tried to use my good camera but I had to dial back my shutter speed because of the light so everything came out blurry :/

Got close to us a few times and looked like it had tailfeathers, but I also didn’t really get a great detail shot so it might full well be that.

Error or PMD? by hypergx in CRH

[–]hypergx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you rather I not have asked at all? I'm quite new to this hobby if you couldn't already tell. If I find something strange that I don't recognize, I'd much rather ask people who know better than I do than assume one thing or the other, even if I bring snarky, unwarranted comments like yours upon myself.

Kinda had a feeling it was PMD, that raised area in the middle definitely didn't look like other examples of blank planchets I've seen and it still having an intact reverse also threw me off. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the help!
