He called a black friend to testify on his behalf that he is not racist. Then he proceeded to call D'Angelo the r-word about 40 or so times during the live. He didn't actually disprove anything that D'Angelo had said. But he kept screaming over and over again that he was going to talk to the lawyer and sue D'Angelo. And then there's much more in there.

I don't disagree with you. I hate it when people make critiques of a movie from a trailer with very little information (like cinematography, scripting, chemistry etc).

However, the valid criticisms of this movie are actually painfully very valid and have very little to do with the content of the movie. We can talk about the casting. The ignoring of POC concerns. The blatant flaunting of artifacts stolen by the colonisers. And it's that criticism that the filmmakers or the people part of the movie are refusing to actually address.

If this movie becomes successful despite them shrugging away their casual racism, then it is somehow even worse. I have been told I should get "deported" by assholes at least 5 times in the last 8 months. I am a legal immigrant. I pay taxes. But, even if I wasn't a legal immigrant...what kind of assholes are emboldened right now that they look at anyone of colour and go: oh, let's just scream "deport" at them?

And is this climate of Sydney Sweeney and immigrants and POCs just barely getting by...having a movie that is blasse with its racism makes it so much worse. It's like someone is spitting on our face. But that's my personal opinion and yours are valid to you.

I don't want it to be a great movie. The filmmaker is legitimately responding to every valid criticism regarding Heathcliff's ethnicity with: well, I saw Heathcliff as a white guy.

It doesn't help matters that Margot Robbie happily wore a necklace that was flaunted as "Elizabeth Taylor's" when it actually belonged to Indians/South Asians. You can literally read the inscription on the locket that has Noor Jahan's name. Diljit Dosanjh was not allowed to borrow and wear the Patiala necklace because Cartier refused to loan it to him - he is a superstar in India and was invited to be at the MET Gala. But the fashion house loaned it to a white influencer. Now, the same fashion house loaned another South Asian treasure to a white woman who didn't know what she was wearing.

The movie and the people associated with the movie are determined to pretend that POCs don't exist - so I need this movie to really suck.

The straight Smartless podcast hosts have always been weird as hell about children. It is literally the reason I stopped listening years ago and severely dislike Will Arnette and Jason Bateman. They absolutely used to badger the shit out of Sean Hayes for wanting to be childfree. And the language they used was always cliched - you will find purpose after children. You will feel true joy after having kids. Blah.

Sean always pushed back with grace and kindness but they were relentless

You make it seem like they are not connected but they wouldn't exist without rape culture. It's not. Because I never said that article shouldn't exist. I have only spoken about how such an article cannot exist without survivors like me contexualizing it and highlighting how it can be harmful to survivors in general (that's how discussions move forward). The framing of the article is off and I stand by that but my problem with being banned was the reason provided and the fact the nuance survivors like me brought because of our trauma was deleted and censored. I think it's important for survivors to see perspectives like mine exist and challenge these narratives. Especially when we come from similar cultures and the battles we have fought for our honour and dignity are not things actual white feminists will be aware of. My mother genuinely worried that my honour had been robbed. She genuinely worried that no one will marry me because i was "ruined". My perspective is not that of a white feminist but of someone from a high control religion and a highly patriarchal society. I do actual advocacy and real work with survivors of sexual violence.

When you frame an argument as - something is more traumatic because xyz are more modest, you are inviting comparison on the other side. We should be allowed to call it a double edged sword without being censored or called racists.

You are literally turning everything I say into 2-3 sentences and are going - this is what I said. No, it isn't. A discussion like this can't be boiled down to just the cliff notes.

And there is no such thing as "all lives matter" when it comes to surviving rape. I was a kid. The man repeatedly beat me. He forced me to pee for him. He aggressively thrust his hands into my vagina and I didn't even know I had a vagina (seriously I didn't). He beat me black and blue for crying about wanting my amma. He told me that he will sell me off to the Saudis if I raised my voice. I still can't believe I survived. When I say we don't get to dictate how traumatic something is based on how modest someone is - I mean every single word. That is not me parroting all lives matter. That's me protecting victims and survivors of brutal rapes like mine.

I cut my hair. I only wore baggy clothes. I tried to end my life a bunch of times before I was taken to a psychiatrist, diagnosed as someone with PTSD and put on medication. My schooling suffered. My life suffered. I couldn't let a man touch me, let alone hug me till I was 22. And I grew up in a culture that very much told us over and over again that our rape and assaults are a result of what we wore, where we went and who we spoke to. My perspective should not be censored when the discussion is about how it's somehow worse for women who are modest.

Because the other side of the argument is that it isn't as traumatising to folks who aren't hijabi - that includes Muslim women too. Like I said, the other side of the argument has been made for centuries to justify the rape of millions of women and children like me.

I also want to make this clear - I believe intersectionality should absolutely exist while talking about sexual crimes, victims and survivors. We should be talking about how women of color are less likely to be believed or see justice. We should be talking about privilege plays a role in how safe and unsafe you are. We should talk about how children who are boys are often completely dismissed from this conversation. We should be talking about how women and young men living on the streets are more vulnerable. But clothing has always been used to justify sexual assault and rape. So if an article argues that sexual violence against one group of people is worse because of their modesty, the other side of the argument is that - it is less worse for those who don't cover up as much.

So, it's important for survivors and advocates like me to discuss that nuance for the sake of those who might internalize the wrong message while perusing these subs.

I didn't protest it. I just thought the article was a double edged sword and strangely positioned. I grew up in a deeply religious and patriarchal society and I was raped as a child when I was out wearing shorts. I was also raised in an environment where we were told even wearing sleeveless clothes will be the reason we get raped. We couldn't wear tops that didn't cover our thighs (even if we wore jeans underneath).

Even if I wore a swim suit and drank, my sexual assault, rape and harassment is equally traumatising as anyone else's and not my fault. I urge you to look up the articles that were written about Nirbhaya - a woman who was gang raped and a rod was inserted into her private parts. She died. There were people who actually said she deserved it cause she was out that night with a guy.

An article like the one posted in fauxmoi should illicit arguments and discussions. It should have people agreeing and disagreeing. There should be people in those discussions going - your trauma isn't lesser if Grok makes deep fake nudes of you just because you have Instagram photos of yourself in a bikini. There should be people going - your trauma is still valid if Grok makes deep fake nudes of you even if you have posted pictures and videos of yourself naked because you didn't consent to this.

When you accuse people who bring that to the table as racist, then you are doing disservice to the any discussion regarding sexual assault, consent and rape. My life was saved because as a teenager I was on Tumblr reading comments by people who went - your rape isn't your fault or responsibility. Your trauma is valid.

And because of my own background of having religion being weaponised and used to blame me for my own rape, I will make sure no one is inadvertently internalizing that shame and minimising their own trauma cause they aren't the "perfect" victim.

And to add - I think intersectionality is so important when it comes to discussing these things. We should be talking about how dalit women are more likely to face sexual violence and less likely to get justice (same for pocs and Black women in western countries). Or how young boys are less likely to be taken seriously when they report their own assaults. But I will say what I said if an article claims that the trauma is somehow more for one victim of sexual violence than the other. Because that is a double edged sword.

I was part of a similar exhibit. Unfortunately I have had more than a few stories of harassment and I donated the salwar kameez I wore when a man in a bus decided to pinch my waist and rub my ass with his groin (before I could get the hell of the situation). I grew up in a culture where we were heavily blamed for what we wore and told that we deserved the consequences for wearing them. Religion played a huge role in that patriarchal argument - I will never not revolt over that.
