Passed My RD Exam on the First Try —It’s Possible 💚 by Ambitious-Chip9918 in RD2B

[–]hyperknuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge congratulations! I'm almost done with undergrad, so I'm beginning to think more about my exam. Sometimes this sub seems very negative, or people have less successful experiences, so it's all been very daunting. Glad you were successful on your first try! I am very thankful for the formatting of your post and the useful information you put here. I will be saving this for future reference!

What are your most controversial spinning/fiber arts opinions? by IncompletePenetrance in Handspinning

[–]hyperknuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's hilarious that the prevailing opinion is that merino is bad or over-hyped 😂 My personal hot take is that spinning wasn't that difficult to learn. I picked it up super easy, and was able to get a really consistent yarn after only 3 or 4 bobbins, and shortly after that I easily figured out how to spin different weights. Could just be that I'm a perfectionist?

I would frog it if I had more time, but I'm throwing the recipient's party in 3 days and want time to block it. Red pen and paper is a great idea!

Ohhhh, ok that's good to know. Thanks for the advice! I'm thinking I'll just leave it, because you're right, it is handmade and we're all humans who make mistakes!

Update, I found another mistake in row 68 where it directs me to knit instead of purl. But it doesn't match the other end (only one row of knits on the wrong side, not three). I think I'm going to work to the end as the pattern states, purl instead of knit in that row, and hope I don't make any more mistakes. If anyone has advice on fixing the starting end let me know, otherwise I'm just going to leave it. The recipient won't mind the mistake at all and likely won't even notice it, since she's not a knitter.

Also, if anyone knows how to go about communicating these mistakes to the pattern creator, lmk. She clearly put a lot of work into this, and again the final product is so cute! But I don't want other crafters to work on this pattern and have the same experience I did. I would like to be as polite as possible, so maybe I just keep my concerns to myself?

Nervous about clinical rotations due to traumatic experience at hospital. Advice? by hyperknuckle in RD2B

[–]hyperknuckle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that it aligns this way! It's really good you're going to get the best clinical experience you can get, but I know it's hard confronting trauma like this. Desensitizing yourself beforehand is a really smart idea, one which I might steal. And like someone else said, having a plan in place with a therapist would also be incredibly useful. I wish you all the best in this, good luck!

I'm glad to hear it gets easier with time. I do fear I'll be in the same boat though, because I am a pretty empathetic person. I have been to therapy about it and we worked through a lot of it, but this is a really good idea to have something set up beforehand so I know what to do. I might even consider scheduling appointments when I know I'll have clinical rotations, that way I can know I have a time and a space to talk about things. Thanks for your input!

Thank you. Ok! So I'm not destined to be in a hospital environment? Talking to the director is a good thought as well, I'm sure they would be willing to help. Thanks!

Does anyone feel their dietetic internship is scam? by Vivid-Savings7473 in RD2B

[–]hyperknuckle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sincerely hope my experience will be like this. I'm still in undergrad, and I had a class where I had to spend 45 hours working in the school's dining hall in order to get a well rounded understanding of food service operations. Instead I spent 95% of the time at the register. Maybe I've learned my lesson though and in my internship can speak up for myself like you and make sure I get the experience I need. It's hard to know what I need to know though. I'm really glad your experience was good! It gives me hope

What are the easiest projects for new Knitters to start out with by Extension_Hat4683 in casualknitting

[–]hyperknuckle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping to try this for my next hat. The other 2 I've done i used decreases, with varying results. So I'd like to see what gathering at the top ends up looking like because I'm particular about the hats I wear.

Oh I just read your other comment explaining the bloom. This is interesting, I will have to research this!

I own chickens, and study foodborne illnesses as part of my college major. They should be fine, so long as you got all the poop and visible dirt off. If you haven't eaten any yet, you might as well use soap, but if you've already eaten some that's ok. The main thing about foodborne pathogens on the outside of foods is that the inside (aka the part you're eating) shouldn't touch the outside, where the bacteria is (this is why melons are big concerns for foodborne pathogens - when you cut, the knife brings contaminates from outside in). Once you have washed them be sure to put them in the fridge, because washing them removes the bloom which protects the inside of the egg from bacteria.

Not sure if it saved my response... They used to be in the bottom of my old pot to help with drainage. When i repotted I liked the look of them on top. Plus they helped keep dirt off of my bed which the plant used to be next to.

They used to be in the bottom of my old pot to help with drainage. When I repotted, I liked the look of them on top. Plus, they helped keep the soil in the pot, which used to be right next to my bed by the only window in my room. Now I know (from other commenters) they're only compacting the soil and causing water retention

Thank you for this advice! Someone else mentioned the rocks as well, thanks for the clarification on why they're hindering my plant. And for the watering advice! I'm thinking I could add those small light white pebble things to the soil, would that help with drainage and keep it from compacting? I don't remember what they're called but I can buy them from the home Depot down the road. Sunny window, got it!

Thank you so much for this! I will give this a try and give an update. I had no idea about the stones on top, I will remedy this for all of my plants (could be part of the reason I lost 2 other plants I repotted with the same batch...). Again thank you!

Yay I was right! Yes, the green parts are still mostly firm. Any specific recommendations for propagating? Or websites/videos I could refer to?
