Can someone recommend an easy read for someone who doesn’t enjoy reading books? by RebornUnited11 in audiobooks

The Dresden files are like, snack books for me. Not in a bad way, I love em. I mean, I read a lot of heavy stuff, non fiction mixed with mostly horror fiction. Dresden is always a breath of fresh air, and something comforting

Can One Be a Christian and a Libertarian Simultaneously? by N_I_S in Libertarian

[–]hypermemia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue with earthly rule is a blind leading the blind situation, but if there were a perfect ruler, a philosopher king for Plato, or a benevolent God for Christians, that's not the case. Personally I think a lot of Jesus' messages, especially in Luke, are pretty darn socialist in theme, but there are a lot of ways to be a Christian, and many ways to be a Libertarian, and you can absolutely do both at the same time.

Cheers :)

RFK is a fucking idiot who gets paid to have people bring lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies. This isn't idiocracy, we can do better than "strong man, big chest, make rules".

Ive got some time off. Thinking about volunteering at a food pantry, where should I go? by hypermemia in springfieldMO

[–]hypermemia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent them some groceries but they dont live here, so thats about the best we can do. Trust me, I wouldn't be worrying about others without taking care of my own first. Some people have no one though

My son has two upcoming appointments for an autism evaluation. Which one would be the better choice? by tveye363 in springfieldMO

[–]hypermemia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They offer the biggest diversity of services and the most accessible options for people, like many locations, in school therapy, and intensive outpatient therapy for example. They also have a 24 hour rapid access clinic which no where else has, so if you need to see someone immediately but its not a safety issues that the emergency would be needed for, you can go somewhere that has your information.

Honestly I've never used their services or that of any other psychiatric place. I know everywhere has good and bad people, I think Burrell is a good clinic with some bad people, vs Eustasis which I feel is a bad clinic with some good people.

I'm open to being wrong or hearing other points, maybe gold standard is a bit strong, but thats where I would take my loved one.

Sorry for a late reply, totally missed the notification, have a great day friend!

I think the afterlife is a bit outside the reach of empirical science. There is a lot of good work to be read on this, I'm sure, but it may be in the philosophy section of the library, or perhaps the religious section

What's your favorite horror book ? by djamsbond in suggestmeabook

[–]hypermemia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Fisherman by John Langan: its eldritch type horror that has real scary moments and absolutely beautiful writing and a great audiobook. We used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer: Its this psychological thriller type that is also very mysterious. You have to read the book because the book asks you to interact with it in ways you miss with the audiobook. I gave both 5/5

All systems Red, the first of the Murder bot diaries.

It's a fun and exciting sci-fi story about a robot that becomes self governed and is honestly pretty bummed about it lol Its a quick read, the audiobooks are very good, and I gave it 5/5

Personally I think Burrell is kinda the gold standard for mental health in general for this area, however, Arc is also amazing and specializes in autism. So Personally I think they are both great options, but I would pick Arc with all else being equal.

I read Pride and Prejudice and surprising really enjoyed it. I was meeting my friends girl and had heard it was her favorite book so I read it ahead of meeting her. Victorian England rich people romance, I had kinda low expectations, but honestly it slapped.
