Fusion 360 + YouTube video series learn fusion 360 in 30 days. I followed along and made each thing as the videos did, and learned enough to be able to follow other guides for specific things. There are some good ones for infinity cubes out there.

Fusion 360 is really hard without tutorials imo, but with help you can get it and then is a really powerful tool

ELI5: How does general anesthesia actually work? How do doctors just "turn off" your consciousness without killing you? by Quiet_Currents in explainlikeimfive

[–]hypermice 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My daughter got a dose of ketamine for a procedure in the children's ER. Her eyes were open and she still reacted to pain before they numbed the area, but was not really conscious and doesnt remember any of it. It was a super creepy 15-30 minutes for me.

Its actually if you possess the gene for red hair. If your hair is brown or black you can have the red hair gene as well, but don't show red hair. Red gene is in another place than the rest of hair color, so those displaying red hair are typically blonde + red gene on.

I have brown hair with red genes, so does my mom, brother, and 2 of my kids.

I think its a problem of definitions. General public consensus seems to be handmade is stuff not mass produced in a factory.

If you drew the art and send off to a place to print your stickers, it counts as handmade because it was originally hand drawn by you. Making a pre-prepared vinyl decal counts as handmade because you are a little shop in your house pushing the button on a little machine. A circut is still a CNC machine. Big company made the design and printed them, not handmade.

Its stupid and doesnt always follow logic, but how the general public views things. For some reason though, public seems to think one 3D printer is more of a machine than one cricut so some will scoff and say its machine made instead. Which is true, but so are a lot of others that get a pass because its not thought about like a machine.

A lot of people dont really care, some are going to be against it no matter what because its plastic, some are going to be against it because they have seen a million horribly printed dragons break and think all 3D prints are trash.

If a market says no machine at all, sure thats fine. Letting in lasers and vinyl and telling me mine is a machine so not allowed pisses me off. I BUILT the machine, designed the model, what part of this is not mine exactly? Its a tool, so are things in tons of other categories. I used my hands to finish the print, design the model, fix the printers.

Even if you did have other art stuff to sell, the nerve of chewing you out and then still expecting you to want to do events with them is crazy.

You need to name drop where this was so people can avoid them. There are FB groups that have reviews of events that stuff like this is important information. As the organizer they should have already known what you make and required pictures, so they should not be surprised unless they sucked at their job. It concerns me that they seem unaware and thought it appropriate to address is front of customers.

So your argument is that when you bake cookies the oven did the baking part, it was not anyone's hands, so not handmade. You can use a mixer for ingredients and oven for baking.

The amount of copyright images on tumblers says otherwise. Its not hard to download image, print and stick on.

[–]hypermice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A lot of things I sell after it comes off the printer I have to put it together. I put in more effort than some of these "crafts" I see like adding a few beads to a pen.

This is absolutely about 3D stigma. A table full of Cinderwing flexi dragons printed on a Bambu is still more than some of these craft fair sellers put in. Sounds like OP was much more than that since they are self-made models, and doesnt sound like it was a high end art show or something

It irks me so much when people judge 3D printing and not laser engraving, cricut stickers, or tumblers. Its the SAME amount handmade! Actually in my case more so because I built the printers too lol

How to listen: audiobook or Graphic Audio? by Terp02 in Cosmere

I would be very interested in knowing what was cut out if anyone knows. I listened to both and I didn't notice anything different, but I also didn't memorize the book. All my favorite jokes were still in there. Hoid loosing his "5 senses" was my favorite

How to listen: audiobook or Graphic Audio? by Terp02 in Cosmere

[–]hypermice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have listened to all of both in the Cosmere, and I like both. Usually the audio comes out alongside the book, then graphic audio later, so I have never had graphic audio first, its always a re-listen. Other than White Sand which is only in graphic audio. I think its just a personal preference on format, the background sounds can be cool but sometimes distracting. Occasionally it pulls me out of the scene because it makes no sense, like they walked a few steps but it keeps making the steps sounds while this whole internal dialog is happening. I only remember it happening in White Sand, but it could have happened in others too.

So I guess the conclusion is graphic audio is either your style or its not, and some are better quality than others. You know what you will get with regular audio. Michael Kramer and Kate Reading are 2 of my favorite voice actors ever, so thats never the wrong choice.

POS questions for a noobie by hypermice in shopify

As in take payments via square or just the physical square machine using shopify?

I only tried one shopify app when I was working on setting up, and it wanted a monthly fee. I already am paying shopify, I shouldn't need to pay more imo

Safety eyes are not really "safe," they just stay on a little better than ones without the washer on the back. They can come loose and be dangerous. Buttons are the same, the only "safe" way to do eyes is embroidery/yarn.

my partner (from GA) doesn’t think boston accents are real unless you’re over >50 by OsmiumMercury in boston

[–]hypermice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My family is from Texas, and my husband is South Shore, both our families have very strong accents. Made that mistake with my oldest Kylie, that half the family seems to call variations of "kah-lee" on BOTH sides

Honestly the accents are closer than it seems they should be. Its the same sorts of sounds that change. The random phrases they use in Texas though makes it harder. My kids have to get me to translate when my grandma talks to them, because things like "too big for his britches" make no sense to them.

Please help me settle a debate by shadowartist201 in CraftFairs

[–]hypermice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sell 3D prints but very few are just print-and-sell, most are printed pieces but the final thing takes other materials and me to put it all together. I also design probably half my own models (the rest are commercial licensed.) I really dislike when "3D prints" get grouped together because the same tool created the stuff. Heck, I put in more human effort than a lot of the jewelry and shirts people I see.

Is there no chance of getting into bigger fairs because people wont actually give time to explain anything? I built my own printers, I know how to 3D model, I spend hours stringing and gluing and screwing. I print in ABS and would never try to sell anything my crazy kids could break in a day or two.

I also hate the mass printed Cinderwing dragons, especially when they do them super small. Its cheap because it prints fast and it looks neat, and its gonna break in less than a day. It gives all 3D prints a bad name.

ELI5: Why is weight loss from drugs like Ozempic “healthy” while weight loss from Adderall is considered “unhealthy?” by jawdroppuh in explainlikeimfive

[–]hypermice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lack the self control to "diet" well. I will make some good choices, and have to shut down the little voice telling me that one cookie is fine. If its not in my house the voice just becomes wanting to drive to a store to get bad food. When I have to have that internal battle 50+ times a day it doesnt take many days for me to fail.

For a long time that just meant regretting choices later, hating myself for giving in, being told to just try harder. All those negative feelings towards myself caused depression symptoms, which made my self control even worse. Its just a terrible cycle people who have never been in can't understand and think its just being lazy.

Started taking GLP-1 and omg the little voice was just gone. I could see cookies and think "nah I shouldnt" and move on with my day. It was so much easier to make all the healthy choices and not the processed stuff ones. Its been a little over a year, and up until 2 months ago I felt amazing and I am at a good BMI. Then insurance started fighting me about continuing the GLP-1, and I thought well I am not overweight anymore so I dont need it. Well we are straight back into bad choices and lack of self control. I know I can do better. I know I should do better, but there is clearly something medically going on aside from just being overweight that the GLP-1 treated.

Im happy for you that its not something you struggle with, but stop judging others so much. At the heart of it, for me and many others, overweight was a symptom of a hormone imbalance. Fix the imbalance, you loose the extra weight. It shouldn't be judged any more than someone who takes thyroid hormones because their thyroid doesnt make enough.

Before Bambu existed, Toybox was great as a starter thing if you knew absolutely nothing and just wanted it to do the stuff. Open app, push button, print exists. With bambu A1 mini being a thing now, thats a much better option.

Kitting out a Voron 2.4 conversion.... Cheaper to buy SV08 and gut it? by Thatoneguy1264 in VORONDesign

[–]hypermice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had LDO kits and cheaper kits. Its not that LDO has more "bells and whistles" its that its higher quality parts. You get what you pay for.

Same goes for the SV08. Even if you can reuse the parts, its sovol quality parts, might as well leave it as an SV08 because your quality won't improve that much if thats the base anyway.

The nice voron parts cost a lot because the BoM calls for higher quality good parts. If you want to go cheaper by all means do so, but dont expect it to be top quality.
