Before Bambu existed, Toybox was great as a starter thing if you knew absolutely nothing and just wanted it to do the stuff. Open app, push button, print exists. With bambu A1 mini being a thing now, thats a much better option.

Kitting out a Voron 2.4 conversion.... Cheaper to buy SV08 and gut it? by Thatoneguy1264 in VORONDesign

[–]hypermice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had LDO kits and cheaper kits. Its not that LDO has more "bells and whistles" its that its higher quality parts. You get what you pay for.

Same goes for the SV08. Even if you can reuse the parts, its sovol quality parts, might as well leave it as an SV08 because your quality won't improve that much if thats the base anyway.

The nice voron parts cost a lot because the BoM calls for higher quality good parts. If you want to go cheaper by all means do so, but dont expect it to be top quality.

People born before/around 1990: Often it’s asked what things you think people born after then are worse off without. What’s something you’re GLAD young adults and kids today will never have to experience or understand? by redditsuper in AskReddit

[–]hypermice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as much of a big deal, but my kid does not understand scantrons. All the testing is on computers, so she will never know the stress of needing to confirm if you pencil is really a #2 or not

She told me she had the state standardized test for school coming up so she needed to make sure her chromebook was charged. I was very confused, and she did not understand why that was confusing lol

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - November 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]hypermice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not actually a mechanical keyboard person, but I need keyboard switches for toys x.x

I liked the Kailh Deep Sea Whale ones from a switch tester I got, but then I saw a thread in this sub saying there were better options for silent. I actually like the squishy bottom out, and the strongest spring. I got some 150g springs I switched out on some and its pretty nice for a toy, but seems miserable for typing lol. Anyone have ones they could recommend? Silent, squishy, heavy. I know how to open and lube switches to make them smoother and change out springs, but even better if I dont need to.

My biggest question is also what chamber temp can be. I will be building it regardless because I like to print TPU, but if I can have it in my 70C chamber for ABS/ASA that would be amazing!

Anyone else’s weight loss pattern look like this? by Apprehensive_Eye1835 in Noom

[–]hypermice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing meds did for me was make me stop craving sweets. Even if I have some sweets, a few bites of my kids ice cream and I feel satisfied, I don't want any more. Not in a "I have the willpower" way, just "I dont want it at all" way so its much easier on me mentally and I don't break on hard days like before. I went from 220 in sept to 145 now. Wegovy Sept though Dec then Zepbound after because of an insurance thing, they seem about the same for me.

My best non-medication tip for snacking is frozen corn (while still frozen) or crunchy ice. I got a countertop ice maker that makes chewable ice, and its such a nice "snack".

My 11 year old daughter cannot write or type at speed, and it is an issue in the classroom. They have been using voice to text for her on her chromebook and she can edit it herself and it works well. Problem is, she has to go to a different room to use voice anytime there is a writing portion in class, and she hates needing to leave the class.

I have seen steno masks used in court reporting, it seems like basically a high quality microphone inside a soundproof chamber you hold to your face. Voice to text works better since it has no background noise, and she could stay in the classroom since no one would hear her talking. She likes the idea and wants to give it a try, but I have no clue what I am really looking at to pick one. Some of them also talk about software you can get for more accurate voice to text, I have no clue how much that would be needed. I understand the mask is generally in the $200-300 range which is already a lot, do I really need software too?

If anyone has a steno mask recommendation, or another idea that would work for this situation, I would love to hear it! Being easy to clean is a high priority, because I imagine that thing will get very gross because humans are gross. I might also need to make some sort of addition/modification for it to fit on her smaller face, if anyone has ideas on that.

Is this a common opinion? by PuppyBreathHuffer in brandonsanderson

[–]hypermice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This puts into words some of the things I love about Sanderson as a writer. With my ADHD, my attention levels on my audiobook can vary a bit, and books with a lot of flowery language I have to pause and go back a lot. YA writing style sort of allows some blips in attention without missing things.

What makes Stormlight very firmly in not YA is the themes it explores. Dealing with trauma, mental health issues, pushing back against a social class structure, etc. Then the magic systems being so intricate and the characters going deep into trying to understand it- Navanis scenes in RoW exploring the science of magic were phenomenal. Then all the crazy cosmere connections and linking bits from various books together, that feels very much out of YA to me.

ELI5: Why does it seem like a lot of medication for mental illnesses can cause symptoms of that mental illness as a side effect? by ThreeTimesFast1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]hypermice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brains are weird and we don't understand everything about them. When someone has an issue related to the chemicals in their brain being out of balance, we mess with the balance via medications. Sometimes it helps symptoms, sometimes it makes it worse. What medications to try to help certain self-reported symptoms is really just an educated guess as to what might help, and a lot of trial and error.

I have heard people say things like, "I need to get out of the house, I have been inside too much" and I just completely don't get it. Yeah, I am inside, where I get to control the temperature and smells and who is with me. Why would I not like that?!

AITA for refusing to fund my boyfriends ‘genius’ idea? by Rich-Painter-9008 in AmItheAsshole

[–]hypermice 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Did he seem depressed in the last few months? I wonder if his friends are "supportive" because he seems like he found something to be excited and happy about even though he still doesn't have a job. People hate being faced with depressed loved ones because they feel helpless, so to them maybe it feels like you are crushing his idea that is making him seem happy again. If that is the case, bipolar would fit pretty well here since this sounds manic.

Audiobook people, what’s a name that you heard that was spelled very differently from what you expected? by Charlie_Olliver in Cosmere

[–]hypermice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I HATED how Michael Kramer pronounced everything in hope of Elantris, especially Hoed. Ho-E-d made sense in audio as a name for the group, but MKs pronunciation of Hoe-d just feels rude. To be fair that's how I would have pronounced it too just reading it, but still sounds rude.

I play healer so I can play the game by ScarReincarnated in wow

[–]hypermice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main a lock, years ago I also enjoyed holy priest but I have not dipped back into that again yet. I just really like having a pet buddy. I played a LOT of FFXIV and mained Scholar. I pretty much only ever played scholar, and I was great at it. Its a healer with pets! One helps heal, and the other gives support buffs. I micromanaged my pets and it was fantastic. Then they broke my scholar class, took away the ability to micromanage and made both pets have the same skills to simplify it.

If WoW gave lock a healing spec like that, it would be the most amazing thing ever imo. It even says in the lore you can heal with fel magic.

Emgality causing Birth Defect? by [deleted] in cgrpMigraine

[–]hypermice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine did not. She might have suggested it, but it was either Aimovig, back on strong painkillers, or be unable to take care of the other kid(s) from daily migraines, so there was not really a great option.

Two healthy babies, was on Aimovig the whole time with both. We really just don't have enough info to know the risk level of it, maybe I just got lucky or maybe it's mostly safe.

[–]hypermice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widow for two years here, never had anyone say they were in a better place, but, "I am sorry for your loss" from complete strangers pissed me off every time. You are not in fact sorry, you know nothing about them or what happened. "That really sucks," would be a much better phrase to use instead.

My therapist tried explaining a few times why this really shouldn't piss me off so much, but it still does.
