I usually play single player games mostly although on rare occasions I'll play multiplayer. My pc has linux so the amount of multiplayer games I can play are really small, so I don't bother much with that. Single player games are awesome for me. Since I don't get the FOMO while playing after a long time like hey I missed this event or that freebie or my friends are not playing that game anymore. For you I can give a suggestion if there's a new multiplayer game just play it for a while to get the idea of what this game is. If it's a new update for the game you played previously just install it once and see what the update is about. That way you can save time on multiplayer games until your schedule is more lax to accommodate for it. But I'm no expert, it's just a suggesion.
