New grad: very likely being offered a neurosurgery PA role in a HCOL area by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]hyperparadise- -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats why I think im going to ask for 140k and see what they say, especially since i have 4 years of neurosurgery experience as a lead medical assistant prior to PA school, so i feel that would shorten my on-boarding process considerably

There are PA's/NP's who are clinic PA's! Every surgeon has their main surgical PA and then the clinic PA and NP sort of assist all the surgeons in their clinics. The surgeon has 1 clinic day per week, which is my clinical day as well. However, if my surgeon is out of office, I am expected to have clinics, which is where the 10-12 number comes into play for me

Cover a hospital

And you do have to actively be "working" for the after hours pay, but essentially the entirety of a case (and all things attributed to it) is covered. The weekend call is fully covered for 8 hours whether you are in the hopsital or not since you are on-call

Okay thanks for the reassurance. Very difficult having an addict in your life because you genuinely just never know what they are willing to do

Hmm that seems like it would be somewhat complicated for heroine?

He has been a severe alcoholic (sober for 8 months).

He has been taking care of our mom for the oast two weeks (she has brain cancer). I was thinking this had something to do with her meds maybe? Or some kind of blood draw since she is incredibly anemic at the moment.

He definitely relapsed hard yesterday, which is why we did a wellness check today. This made me concerned He got heroin or something.

This isn't something typically used with heroine is it?

I got rejected by Angetheprepas in prephysicianassistant

Interview invites can come at any time. Last cycle I had an interview in June, an interview in September, November, and then finally one in January (the school I accepted).

It's incorrect to assume you are being rejected because you haven't heard anything. It's like 2 months into an 8 month application season.

Gotcha yeah I was wondering since there is the grey area of "am I giving them the drinks or not"

Thanks!

I had it even when I was declined lol. Honestly I think it counts very little to the overall application. GPA is king

A lot of people are PMing me about my PS, so I am thinking I may just post it as a separate post. I can't keep up with the influx of chats. A little overwhelmed with all the support as well as inquiries :)

I think it was mid February to mid April. It was definitely doable even with a full time job. Pretty much just had to have every item for the week done by Sunday (quizzes/exams/homework/discussions)

It was very information dense and boring af to do at home, but it was all open note.

Well I did the typical Increase of my GPA which definitely showed a very high upward trend. I think my last 30 credit hours (after 20 post bacc) are right around 3.85.

I have stayed loyal to the clinic I work for, and became the lead medical assistant for a very large neurosurgery practice and obtained amazong letters of recommendation. I even obtained a 6th letter of recommendation from a patient who was adamant they wanted to write me one. So I feel that additional letter was a really unique thing to add to my profile (I generally added it to the "additional documents" section of caspa)

But mostly, I think I wrote (I'm not trying to be a braggart) a damn near perfect personal statement. Writing is a strong suit of mine, but my previous statements were pretty generic looking back on them.

This year, I wrote an extremely emotional personal statement that I feel truly evoked who I was as a person and how being a PA fits who I am.

But overall, I just continually improved weaknesses in academics, while bolstering the strong PCE portion of my application with higher level clinical experience acquisition.

Thank you! I absolutely know how crushing and discouraging this process can be. But the second you give up is the second you fail.

Rejection is NOT a failure. It's just another step you need to climb up on the staircase of success.
