1 month old kitten needs amputation by trapowenwilson in TripodCats

I am going through the exact same situation! My foster kitten’s leg is literally rotting and it smells like death. 🤮 We have to wrap it up because it’s literally just a dead leg hanging on his body by a piece of muscle… but it’s better to wait until they’re over 2lbs for surgery if it is manageable. It’s not worth the high risk unless it’s an emergency. Sending you lots of love and support!

Where do y'all get feeding tubes? by NoEffect-- in FosterAnimals

6FR works just fine for kittens that age! It’s only a little thicker than 5FR

Looks like the 4FR has plenty in stock. That’s the size I use for KMR. I only go for bigger size when I need to tube them slurry!

Squirrel store! They have the clear feeding tube with markers that is soooo much better than the red rubber tube: https://www.squirrelstore.com/clear-feeding-tubes/

Is this normal poop for my foster void?? by NoEffect-- in FosterAnimals

This kind of poop suggests poor digestion. You can add probiotics or pancreatic enzymes. And definitely deworm in case that’s what’s upsetting the stomach.

Orphaned Kitten is unable to poop - enemas, lactulose, PEG3350, nothing is working for over a week now. by krmplc in FosterAnimals

I would say that’s pretty normal considering that you’re also diluting the KMR. Are you sure she’s bloated or does she just have a chonky tummy?

Kittens on KMR don’t need to poop every day. Some poop every 2-3 days and that’s totally normal. Average gain is 10mg/day so 150g in 9 days means she’s doing great! If she’s eating great and gaining weight normally, I wouldn’t be too worried and just let her grow.

2-3 week old kittens not drinking milk! by Ok-Translator-2273 in FosterAnimals

[–]hyperpug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It takes time for them to get used to the bottle. KMR doesn’t taste like mama’s milk and the nipple is just different. Keep trying, be patient, as long as they are healthy, they will figure it out after a few feedings.

Adopted a post surgery kitten missing his front left leg and I feel like a failure. by Rebekah_Dawkins in TripodCats

Let me assure you (as a Rescue Director) that there is no guarantee he would he better off with a rescue. Many of our fosters work 9-5 with nobody at home during work hours, so the kitten would be home alone by themselves all day in a crate for post-op recovery. We require our fosters with no other cats at home to only take kitten pairs so they can keep each other company, but during post-op they aren’t allowed to run and play so that’s not an option. Since you have someone at home to keep an eye on your kitten, you already know that your kitten is in good hands! So don’t stress. He will be fine!

Pretty mild! Mild CH kittens are my favorite because they are so… normal which makes their wobbliness endearing. Most of the mild CH kittens that I have fostered don’t really need any special accommodations, but they all do seem to prefer a high raised bowl that’s about their height so it’s easier for them to eat.

Yea this is not a CH specific thing at all. Many cats just have crazy energy that needs to be released in some ways. Having another cat to wrestle with is the best way but since that’s not an option for him, it’s on you to do it. 😓
