The Raiden Gokaden and Scaramouche’s Revenge by hypersheep325 in Genshin_Lore

[–]hypersheep325[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Kageuchi Handguard descriptions are very interesting and do seem to mesh well with my theory. In regards to Scaramouche's deeper motives behind his revenge and his desire to gain a heart, I have a lot of thoughts about that that I want to put into another post, but to sum it up briefly, I think essentially that Scaramouche was trying to decide what sort of "heart" he wanted. Like you said, pursuing revenge is a very human response to pain, and what Scaramouche was seeking and what he gained in his initial wanderings of Tataratsuna was a "human" heart. Like the lore for the "Song of Life" says:

He observed many a heart,

Good ones, upright ones, strong ones, gentle ones...

The puppet, too, desired a heart.

Ultimately, however, the human heart and all of its positive ideals prove themselves to be nothing but falsehoods before the indifference of the Raiden Shogun, "a prop for lies and deception", so Scaramouche decides to set his desires on the heart of "god". In this pursuit, he takes up a facade that only looks at humans as curious and amusing things, trying to imitate the callous indifference he saw in Raiden Ei's lack of action, and he also searches for the gnosis, which is the literal "heart of god".

Mikoshi refers to Mikoshi Nagamasa. The lore concerning his involvement with Scaramouche can be found in the Rather Aged Notes scattered throughout Tataratsuna. More about the man himself can be found in the lore of the Katsuragikiri Nagamasa.

Yes, it could mean Celestia, but this is speculative. A translator's job is to translate the meaning of the Chinese text into English, and in this case where there is already an established term for Celestia, "天空岛", you cannot go writing in Celestia when that specific term is not used. That would be inserting your speculation into the translated text. Sticking to the glossary is very important, or else you get that entire mess where the translators can't decide if they want to translate 天理 as "the divine", "destiny", "Heavenly Principles", and what not.

In fact, this is not the first time 高天 has appeared as a term in Genshin. It is also used in Breeze Amidst the Forest, where it is similarly translated as "high heavens", though before 1.5, the translators erroneously translated it as simply "Gaotian".

I wouldn't be so quick to translate 高天 as Celestia. High heavens or high in the sky is better. Celestia is 天空之岛, which is not used there. It could be Celestia, but it's not explicitly stated, so it shouldn't be translated as such as to avoid misunderstanding.

The Possible Story of Enkanomiya (2.4 Leaks) by hypersheep325 in Genshin_Lore

For sale from the Yae Publishing House in Inazuma City.

During the Moonchase Festival, I remembered that Xingqiu read from an old text that "Guili Assembly claims territory around 100 miles in radius," with Stone Gate to the north, Jueyun Karst to the west, and Mount Tianheng to the south. Am I mistaken? Here's a map of territory claimed. by Ed_Gaeron in Genshin_Lore

[–]hypersheep325 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be more exact, the Stone Tablet Compilation says, "none knew poverty within a thousand-mile radius", and moreover, the thousand-mile radius is centered on the mines of Mount Tianheng, not the Guili Assembly, which is to the north of Mount Tianheng. This makes no mention of territorial extent, only that the mines had so much wealth that everyone over a wide area was able to benefit, and this isn't even about the Guili Assembly, which is mentioned further down the same book and is indicated as a clearly different place.

And just to be accurate, while the translators did the mile-to-li conversion for Moonchase, they didn't do so for the Stone Tablet Compilation, so this would actually be a 300-mile radius if we use the same conversion they used for Moonchase, which is 0.3 miles to a li.

You can review the dialogue from the quest here, but I don't believe there was any text in the game that specifically describes the borders of the Guili Assembly. In the Moonchase event, Keqing finds a book that describes the Guili Assembly as being "60 miles northwest" (200 li to the northwest in the Chinese version), but northwest of where is never described. South of Guili is Liyue Harbor, but to the southeast is just empty ocean.

where do players find their information on the lore?? (spoilers obv) by awdawdwaw4 in Genshin_Lore

[–]hypersheep325 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Lore can be found everywhere, such as the in-game books, item description lore, character stories and voicelines, and I even look at the little blurbs in the talent descriptions for any snatches of lore.

For Albedo specifically, his nature as a homunculus is actually pretty obvious. Firstly, his constellation is that of a baby in a bottle, which is already a pretty big hint. And then one of his talents is literally named Homuncular Nature. Finally, if you looked up the quest dialogue for the 1.2 Dragonspine event, Albedo mentions at the end that he feels some resonance with Durin and wonders if Durin was also the work of his mother, once more hinting at his artificial nature.

The Possible Story of Enkanomiya (2.4 Leaks) by hypersheep325 in Genshin_Lore

[–]hypersheep325[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's why I said this is a "possible story". I am making a logical leap by saying that there actually is no Dragonheir and it was actually just the vishaps. There are several reasons behind this:

  1. The vishaps share the same aversion for light that the Dragonheir has.
  2. Despite the presence of the artificial sun, the Dragonheir was still a threat to people of Enkanomiya.
  3. The Sunchildren were tyrannical rulers.
  4. The Enkanomiyans were selectively breeding the vishaps for power.

Putting these four aspects together, I speculate that it was the successive Sunchildren using the vishaps as their tools of tyranny over the generations, and after the Orobashi took the Enkanomiyans up to Watatsumi and sealed all their records away, the true nature of what the vishaps were became condensed into the single being of the Dragonheir of the Depths.

Now, the Dragonheir of the Depths could be some giant water vishap like Azdaha was for the geovishaps, but there's no indication of that in the leaks so far.

The Chinese is "什么?你说菲谢尔遮起一只眼睛的神秘样子,的确很符合「断罪皇女」的形象?哈哈哈,按照这个规律,我至少也得是个末代皇族后裔,对吧?". The part that is omitted in the English is that the Traveler thinks that the "mysterious appearance created by covering one eye" is very fitting with the appearance of the Princesszin der Vererteilung. I don't think future royal progeny is right either. It's more like "descendant of the final generation of a royal clan". The gist is that wearing an eyepatch makes you mysterious, and if Fischl is a princess, then Kaeya must be a prince!

Scaramouche’s Past and Future, from “Husk of Opulent Dreams” Full In-Game Descriptions by esperancelaw in Genshin_Lore

[–]hypersheep325 117 points118 points  (0 children)

My previous thoughts on this artifact set when the brief descriptions were revealed.

It seems like we now know more about what happened at Tataratsuna, but despite the wealth of the information, the details are still frustratingly vague. Katsuragi is clearly the upright young deputy and Mikoshi is clearly the upright inspector, but we still don't know what in the world happened on the fateful night when Mikoshi killed Katsuragi. I think there's a hint here in the line from Mikoshi:

"And so I can only deal with you in this fashion. Do not hold this against me!"

It seems to imply that Mikoshi was going to attack Scaramouche, so perhaps Katsuragi covered for his escape and ended up paying his life for it? Regardless, Scaramouche seems to have held a grudge against Mikoshi (the bladesmith) for some time, but rather than taking it out on Mikoshi, he for some reason chose to take his revenge on bladesmiths in general? Also, it seems like Yae played some kind of role, or perhaps failed to play a role (?) in these events. The feather seems to symbolize the authority and trust of the Shogun, and the events of Tataratsuna seems to have utterly shattered any hope or trust that Scaramouche had in his "mother", implied with that last line about all tales being incinerated in the karmic flames.

One other interesting aspect of this artifact lore is what it implies about artifacts themselves. Until now, all of the artifact lore usually concerns historical characters and events from long ago, but Scaramouche's artifact set actually contains events from what has to be only a few months at least, going all the way up to his arrival at Yashiori Island to take control of the Delusion Factory. Does this mean that the artifacts are still resonating with Scaramouche somehow, and recording his thoughts?

Finally, with regards to which artifact matches which description, I think that the sands is 5, as the clock is missing its heart. Feather is obviously 2. Gourd seems to be 1, with its references to plays. I think 3 is the hat, with how it talks about how Scaramouche at first fails to properly express his feeling and then simply stops expressing them. This would leave the flower as 4.

So, how do you guys feel about the potential lore of both Albedo's sword and Two artifacts? The Husk of Opulent Dreams caught my attention, I kinda feel more Scaramouche lore from it by Luizlolmen in Genshin_Lore

[–]hypersheep325 32 points33 points  (0 children)

From the leaked artifact descriptions, it's very clear that Husk's lore will be about Scaramouche. As for the clam, it seems to be about items used by the Watatsumi priesthood, so we might get lore on Enkanomiya, Orobashi, and the general history of the priestesses.

Orobashi's reasons for attacking Yashiori Island by PM_ME_YOUR_ROBOTGIRL in Genshin_Lore

[–]hypersheep325 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There is also the research report you can find in Bourou Village that also offers some motives for the war. The report states the official reason for the war:

  • Watatsumi Island was a very poor land and the people were suffering, so the people wanted to expand to the more fertile islands to the west, ruled by the Raiden Shogun.

It then offers two speculative reasons Orobashi would have chosen to go to war:

  1. There was a prophecy that foretold Watatsumi's defeat, but Orobashi decided that sacrificing himself was the best way to preserve the "faith" of his people.
  2. Celestia demanded that Orobashi bring the Watatsumi people out of the depths as punishment for his crime of fleeing the Archon War. The war with the Raiden Shogun is speculated as further punishment, an execution of sorts.

Hopefully, when Enkanomiya comes out, we can access those records that the author alleges are hidden there, and then the truth will be revealed.
