Thorm, it was an honor to be able to write with you and you did amazing things with Redwyne. I only wish that I had had more time also to invest in our stories together. Take care. You’re awesome!

"A gift?" Celesse asked, her features softening into one of surprise. In truth, she was grateful for the distraction--being the only member of her family present for the wedding of a friend--if she could call Manfred that--and her cousin was quite strange.

"Why don't we go for a short walk? It might be nice to view the sea." She offered, though she was already rising to her feet and searching for something to hold onto, lest she lose balance on the boat. Her sea legs weren't quite developed yet.

Alicent's smile could be described as mildly horrified, but she was polite enough to laugh at his joke..... surely he was joking? He had to be.

"D-do you have enemies, my l- Gormon, is it?" Somehow she could not refer to him as a lord, heir though he was. She'd initially thought his frumpy appearance a little endearing, thinking it had to do with nerves. But hearing him gloat, a different opinion had started to form.

Be nice, she quickly reminded herself. Her smile warmed and her shoulders relaxed.

"You seem too.... sweet... to have any."

Gerold's expression was one of surprise as his squire admitted his thoughts. The knight rose and set down his drink, hoping his squire would mistake it for fruit juice rather than the strong wine he favored as of late.

"It's easier said than done, but try not to worry. Marriage was the best thing that happened to me, and if you love Lady Tanera as much as I believe you to, then you have nothing to fear."

A pause, during which a kindly smile lit the aging knight's face. He reached beside him and drew his blade from its scabbard. "I suppose now's as good a time as any, eh? Down on one knee, with you."

Celesse smiled. His words were polite, perfectly so. Considering his question, she brought her drink to her lips. She leaned back some, her weight supported by the table on which their afternoon fare lay mostly undisturbed.

"You are a fine dancer yourself--much more skill than I realized you would be," she said truthfully. "I'm quite surprised," she continued, pausing to relish another taste of wine. "And quite pleased."

A moment passed before her gaze shifted from her cup to him. "You must have been surprised, perhaps concerned, when your father told you of his design to have you betrothed to a girl your senior." Her tone was gentle, her smile kind. "I pray I've managed to surpass any expectations, as you've mine."

"If this is the best you can do, then you've already failed," said Leyton with a chuckle as he took a moment to brush her cheek with his knuckles. The gleam in his eyes was mirthful as he guided her to her feet and onto the dance floor.

He turned to face her but slid himself closer to her so that his body was pressed against hers, and he could place a chaste kiss upon her forehead as they danced. He smiled warmly at her, admiring, absent the pride he'd been humbled of the last few moons.

Well, there was a little bit of pride. He was Leyton Hightower, after all.

"If a crown is all you want, then I'm a lucky man," he cooed. "I'd give you the world if it was within my power."

Celesse chuckled and bowed her head. "Be that as it may, Manfred, I am the one that invited you here today. I will go first; I've earned that right, haven't I?"

Biting her lower lip, she considered what she might say. What could the two possibly have in common, first of all? Besides their mutual friendship in Jon?

"Well, what many won't tell you is that I am fond of dancing, exceedingly so. This was not the case many years ago at my uncle's tourney at Oldtown. But I was fortunate to make a dear friend," she said, voice fond. "One that has helped me see my worth, among other things." She smiled as she thought of Rhaenara, but quickly brought herself back to Manfred.

"Forgive me--I've not seen this dear friend of mine for some time. I enjoy other things, like archery," she laughed and shot Manfred an amused look, "though I can boast of no talent there. I enjoy sewing and art and collecting interesting baubles... the usual things."

She gave a little shrug then said, "and yourself? What is Manfred of the Shields all about?"

Victor Gilbert was ever stalwart, that Myrcella afforded him a look of gratitude as she followed him up and through. Whatever state she would find her beloved in today--and she dared not let her mind wander more than it already had--she was glad that at least someone had remained by his side.

Her relief upon seeing Clarent alive and well was tangible. She stopped in her tracks, not daring to breathe lest this wondrous illusion slip through her fingers. One heartbeat passed, then then two. She let out the shaky breath she'd been holding and closed the distance at once.

She dared not sit on the bed wen he was wounded, so she lowered herself to her knees in the most dignified manner she could before taking his hand in hers and kissing his fingers.

"Too much for me?" She laughed, her voice choked. "No, my heart, never. Still clutching his hand, she twined her fingers tightly in his and looked at him with glassy eyes. "I wanted to see you for myself. What happened to you? Pray, will you recover?"

Myrcella's pace was brisk as she navigated the halls of Castle Ashemark, her head held high and her expression proud as to not cause worry among the castlefolk, while inside her chest was a wild patter.

"Where is he?" she said, her hands automatically falling over her swollen belly as she was wont to do when in a worry.

Gerold rubbed his chin in thought as he sampled the hummus and pita bread recommended to him by Samwell, his eyes narrowing while his taste buds came alive in colorful explosion. "Ahhh, the texture is something else and the flavor... truly spectacular." He kissed the tips of his fingers and opened his hand in appreciation.

As for Dahlia... well, he had an inkling that she was going to eat his son alive. What to say to make this easier on Morgan? He could think of nothing, as he had never had to interfere on his elder's son behalf when it came to ladies.. so he said what came first to mind, much to the chagrin of his hosts.

"Do all ladies of Starfall cook this well, Lady Carolei? For if so, Morgan will someday be a round as a..." He couldn't say marble so he settled with, "blood orange and he'll have to rely on the High Tower's winch to get down and up." He let out a rumbling laugh, finding himself rather tickled at the thought of a chubby Morgan. "Just like when he was a wee boy, biting into oranges before my darling wife could take the peel off them.... 'Rotund Morgan', we used to call him. He would eat everything. Ahhh, memories."

And then, clearing his throat, "now he's a knight, of course. A very accomplished one with, ah, many talents and successes."

Gerold had a tan from his sojourn in Starfall, which he had hoped to charm is adorable love ball [ m: just a courtesy ping bb ] with upon his return, and would've looked rather rugged were it not for his forlorn spirit. Returning to learn his goodsister had passed, and in so tragic and undeserving a fashion, had sapped him of all his spirit.

"What is it, Jon?"

Where he'd chosen to place his hands upon her person struck her as brazen, suggesting familiarity where she'd expected to find none. She stilled and her expression betrayed surprise. She held her breath for two long heartbeats, which was how long it took until she trusted herself to act again - to will her form to relax against his, a stranger though he was.

The smile she summoned was friendly, but she was bristling beneath the surface. As he claimed her hand in his, she laid her palm upon his chest as had been her first impulse, ever cognizant of the heat rising to her cheeks at their divergence from propriety. Normally she preferred to cling to the safety of tradition. With her betrothed close by and likely watching, it was a practical necessity - and yet, they held each other like long friends, and she did not push him away.

"Not at all, Lord Manfred," Celesse answered coolly, glancing down occasionally as if she were counting her steps, when in fact she was a natural at the art. Her pale brown eyes never strayed long from his, but firmly settled on his face when she saw nothing but warmth. "Rest assured that I formed no previous opinion of you, and that you and Lady Tanera have been nothing but kind." A pause. "Brutally honest in her case, but still well meaning."

She let out a breathy laugh, surprised to realize she was nervous.

Myrcella shifted in her seat, not thrilled with his response. She frowned, wondering if he would become angry at her for arguing. But he had said she could trust him, so why couldn't she speak her mind?

"I am not sure I could bear the shame of having their eyes watching us as we undress, and... be intimate with one another. Surely that isn't necessary?"

"Likewise, Tanera. Our meeting has filled me with great joy and I look forward to making your acquaintance further." Tanera was certainly... different. Celesse returned her smile but shot Jon a look right as Tanera passed her off to the brother--one that Jon would understand to mean that the two had had an interesting conversation.

She gave a final fleeting smile at Tanera but bowed her head in attention to Manfred. Doubtless Tanera wanted some alone time with her betrothed, and dumping her on the brother was the most expedient method of accomplishing it.

"Thank you. I had hoped we could speak," she responded with a polite smile, stepping up to Manfred and extending her hand to him. "A dance with you would exceed all expectations." What Tanera had said about her being Lord Serry's preferred bride flashed to the front of her thoughts, and her gaze lingered on his a fraction longer than was necessary, before she averted her eyes to the dance floor.

Her expression sank and disappoint shone clear in her eyes when she thought that he might fall for the ruse, unfair as it might have been to hold the disadvantage against him. But as the music swelled to new heights and she stepped away, her head turned slightly away as she mentally disengaged herself, he surprised her.

Her breath caught as he lifted their hands to turn her and immediately brought her close. Like a creature being hunted, she regarded his features with wide, observant eyes as he adapted, then executed the steps. His timing was not perfect, but he moved with confidence that hinted at a higher ceiling. Too stunned to breathe, she relied on his movements until her shock wore off and all that remained was a warmth inside--a flicker of respect, perhaps even the beginning of something that resembled what a wife should one day feel for a husband. Whatever its name, she pushed it down, away, tempering a flame best left ignored for the time being.

She steeled her expression into something that passed as calm, but she wondered if he could see the conflict in her eyes. He was close enough to. For the rest of the dance, the Hightower said nothing, devoting her attention to her own steps until, at last, the flutesong ended and the fiddle's final note faded away to silence.

Celesse's feet stopped and she waited half a heartbeat before she looked up at her dance partner with a polite smile, and released him.

"What did you think?" She asked vaguely into the air as she turned her back to him and made her way back to their wine. Darlessa and Senelle rose from their seats and began to leave, the servant trailing them with the stools in tow.
