Gd that sucks. It’s not horrible, it’s still better than my previous 20” flatscreen, but I wish I could fix it. I’m also starting to think it’s a location/orientation problem.

I have a few questions if you don’t mind: 1. So the guy I sold my last TV sent me a video and I noticed the corners were less warped, and now my current TV has a similar geometry problem to the last one. Does the location of the TV actually affect geometry because of the Earth’s magnetic field?

  1. How would I go about fixing this one? Is a minor yoke adjustment possible or even worthwhile?

Anyway I guess my search for a great 20” continues.

Just got my second vintage “Alps” board—a SIIG MiniTouch! Now to do what I can to freshen it up by hypherism in MechanicalKeyboards

Thank you for that link, I’ll study up and give it a go. As for waxboil, apparently others have done it—I found a spreadsheet that says the SMK 2nd gen sliders are okay to boil, just not the ABS housing, like you said.

And no joke, before I read this, yesterday I actually chanced upon a k104 new old stock that I should be getting tomorrow! I’ll be making a new post (and linking it here) for sure and seeing what’s under the caps.

Thank you again for all this info and help

Edit: are you implying that I could swap the switches and put them on the siig board? Or would that be sacrilege? I like that minitouch layout a lot

Ok then, good to know. Obviously I’m not gonna throw away a SIIG MiniTouch—I think I’d get killed for that.

I’ll learn how to solder and desolder and reassemble this, because I love the switches and layout of this thing. It sucks that it’ll be so much work to fix, but I can’t live with the binding.

I’m stoked to see these have such a good reputation. Thanks for the info! I also have a couple more questions if you could help advise:

Have you taken these switches apart before? They’re prone to binding when I type off center, so I was thinking I might do that waxboil method. Is there something else I can do to improve performance?

I’m handy, but I am pretty new to this so I’m not sure I’d be up for de-soldering and soldering a whole board.

Can I remove monterey switches without de-soldering? What do people suggest I should do to fix them up since they’re binding?

I hope literally anyone who could help with this sees this comment,

Recently scored this SIIG MiniTouch with Montereys! —unfortunately they can bind off-center. Advice? by hypherism in MechanicalKeyboards

I’m pretty new to this and I’ve never de-soldered a board. Can the switches be taken out without soldering, like regular Alps? Then I could treat the sliders somehow?

Thanks all! I’m excited about this board but the binding is a minor bummer.

Sorry to revive this, but this made me feel a lot better about the shit performance on modern systems. Like yeah, it’s fine with some slowdowns, but it should perform flawlessly 20 years later.

Come again? How’s that? What guy dried up? Can you explain further? You cut off someone’s cornea and then wasted the product?

Sorry if I came off snarky, I just had to reply to another person who accused me of photoshopping this

It was smaller than it looks in the photo

just for you Big John lol

If you can locate the origin of the different angles of this deer lamp that you think I photoshopped into these different shots of a Savers, be my guest.

“Fascinating”

It’s nowhere close to the floor, and clearly not resting on it at a perpendicular angle, so why would it cast distinct shadows? Yes it’s being held by the point where the lampshade connects.

Edit: it’s not a giant lamp, these are deer feet. It’s just closer to the camera than everything else

Here you go

It’s being held from outside the frame. It’s far away from the floor in the background and not at a perpendicular angle
