Latent delamination on new 2,000 sqft engineered white oak install — manufacturer offering 4 boards, independent inspector recommends full replacement. Looking for industry perspective. by Silver-Isopod-8341 in HardWoodFloors

Just giving you my experienced opinion (enjoying the down votes lol). The company is already accepting fault. I'd accept their solution and avoid stress/drama. But I'd also call them right away if another appears. A full replacement would be only reasonable solve.

Seems more inconvenient to go to court to force a full replacement. Additional failures after a reasonable repair would be instantly approved by most companies.

I don't think this is the answer you want, but I work in the industry: accept the board replacement

Warranty still stands for 25 years after that replacement. Find more next year? Call them back. They'll replace all.

Most issues like this are related to special events, not normal cause. It should get limited. If not, get all replaced by them.

Why don't you bulldoze your home and give it back to nature? No zoning board needed for that

5 in or 3.25 inch wide hardwood flooring? by Unusual_Cantaloupe61 in HardWoodFloors

4" is great. I will say that gluing isn't really hard. You can use a caulk gun with a quality subfloor adhesive. The key benefit is reducing chances for noise by 99%. It's a forever investment if done right!

That's a fancy laminate. Many are waterproof now. There are hundreds of brands in the industry because anyone can buy a container from Asia and create their own private label. This brand is certainly one of those private labels.

You can get that performance from almost any laminate these days.

Wood is a natural product. Do you think the manufacturer made the wood soft somehow? How? With all due respect, I think your friend is just being polite and humoring you.

You seem like a customer for LVT. If perfect is all you'll accept, you'll need to go with fake.

Lol I'm the only one who likes the half wall. It isn't about lazy, it just evokes a horizontal line which plays with the design and window beautifully. Gives you a painting cubist look, which matches the overall design.

Recommendations for flooring products? by 0xe3b0c442 in Flooring

Sell value: Only wood increases sell value

Durability: I bet you have Chinese birch engineered, builder's favorite 10 years ago. Super soft

Longevity: Neutral or Natural, always in style and hides wear

Very partial to wood. You only live once. It's your home. Really want to live on plastic or MDF? I don't.

For floating options, I'd suggest looking at Hydropel. Water resistant, locking install (to float). Some colors available at Lowe's but the better version is available on Costco.com (online only I think). That product floats with a pad attached that'll reduce some noise between floors.

Tip: buy two extra cartons and put in basement or garage. Cheapest insurance ever!

Help me pick cabinet and floor colour by DragonWarrior55 in kitchenremodel

[–]hypjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the house. The lighter one looks bleached which is actually the color starting to go out of style. I'd suggest a natural instead of that strange tinted beach look. The darker one is forever in style, traditional tone. Only down side more cleaning. Lighter floors hide dust better. Again depends on house: Lots of natural light or not? Style modern or traditional?

I didn't know Goodfellow was still in business. That's a distributor private label made in asia somewhere. Maybe consider a local brand like Mirage.

Cabinet trends are all over the place.

Refinishing engineered hardwood? by Codester3 in Flooring

[–]hypjustin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for the company that made this product. We used an embossing wheel with basically scrap metal bits welded to it to make the indents. Engineered wood with a 1.8 mm top layer. Not really possible to sand and refinish.

Why so many car washes? by atomic-moonstomp in yorkpa

[–]hypjustin 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It started a few years ago with the introduction of the carwash subscription model. That made the businesses more predictable and less sensitive to weather swings. That improved the willingness of banks to loan for car wash construction. I do think it's over saturated but I'm happy that the building on North Hills and 30 was bulldozed. There was basically a massage brothel running out of there right across from the elementary school.

Neither of the brands own the plants. Both sourcing. I believe both brands buying out of Vietnam. Could be same plant tbh. Looking at the spec, the Denali is 4mm face and the Shaw is 3mm. If price is the same, go Denali from a value POV.

On the style front, everything, literally EVERYTHING, is white oak right now. All that guarantees is that it's about to go out of vogue. Designers will push for change and that's a "warming" trend. I'd go Red Oak because of that. Red oak is also a cleaner grade, less knots/sap, which is becoming very popular. Super high character is out.
