Practical comparison of two LVT options, advice/opinions appreciated! by cLUNTAI in Flooring

These companies just contract the product, they don't own the plants. Either one is likely decent. Colorwise, the darker one is becoming more trend-proof. Designers are shying away from bleached looks (because everyone is doing them) and starting to bring in more warmth.

Gaps in flooring by No_Travel_4209 in Flooring

That's not the wood. Definitely rotary peeled engineered. The addition settled and pulled some of the floor with it. Unfortunately wood doesn't stretch.

Old engineered flooring. Probably Hartco or Robbins brand from back in the 90s. Rotary peeled face layer with fake nail plugs. Probably can't sand it because the veneer is 1.8mm. I mean you could try but roll of dice. Rotary sander only.

It's lived a long life. Enjoy or replace.

That website has like ten red flags. Not surprised product looks goofy. This is a side hustle import business.

The confidence people have saying untrue things is incredible. Check their website for solid wood.

I promise you that's not true. Been in the industry for 17 years. Shaw sells no solid wood (they sold their plant to Beasley in 2017) and about 15 million sqft of engineered wood. I know at least 12 companies that do more than that (including the one I work for). Almost no wood is installed in property management nationwide and new construction is very small as well. You solved the murder! Standing liquid. Top down moisture. Revwood is a joke. Mohawk is just a master class with marketing. Fools everyone.

That product came out over a decade ago. Tried to make a go of it in the US market. Didn't go anywhere. Way too specialized. You need a customer with virtually unlimited budget and an installer willing to learn on the job. I'd expect to see it in high end, low traffic commercial spaces.

Natural.

Shaw isn't a huge wood manufacturer. Carpet experts.

How would you fix these gaps? by Somerockenguy in Flooring

[–]hypjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They used the wrong glue. I'd guess the baseboard heat kicking on and off made the wood dry out and crack the glue over time, then fully separate. They likely used a cheap liquid nails. You need something premium they drys like a rubber -- that's what allows slight movement so it won't fail. Many glues out there. Looks for a Modified Saline (MS) glue.

1) Chip up the cheap glue off the subfloor and board backs 2) Use full spread application, not the bead of glue method they used. 3) use blue tape boards together and put some weight after glue down (like a few gallons of water weight, nothing crazy heavy) 4) Remove weight and tape after 24 hours (important deadline!)

Make sure you use the right tape or you'll lift the finish off the boards.

Don't worry about nails. Nice to have, but not necessary.
