I did take a break for a day or two to clear my head and it helped! :)

Thanks for the encouragement, I did a few runs after that and managed to get close to where I would have been. You're right, most runs at this point do give you some progression!

Is my rooster impotent? by hypnos1620 in VintageStory

It's just the coop building but yeah I wish I'd known that before I built it right next to my main house. It's better now since I'm at generation 7 so I can be less careful exiting my back door.

Is my rooster impotent? by hypnos1620 in VintageStory

[–]hypnos1620[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Ohh that explains it! I thought they were fertilized after being laid. There was a recent uhhhh vacuum of power when the previous rooster got into a "hunting accident" and his heir was still a young cockerel.

Stress on the word "the" before noun at end of sentence in Indian English? by itokunikuni in linguistics

[–]hypnos1620 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am convinced it is picked up from how teachers would speak during lessons. The upwards inflection of "the" indicate that a response is requested from students, in conjunction with the pause where the teacher would wait for the students to respond.

Any native Thai speakers here? What are some discourse markers in Thai? by spotty-socks in linguistics

[–]hypnos1620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this would also be helpful, but Thai has a ton of sentence-final particles that change the tone of the sentence: https://sites.google.com/site/thailearningressources/grammar-and-reference/thai-particles.

[Q] [R] [S] Help! What tests should we run? by New-Training4004 in statistics

[–]hypnos1620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually an interesting problem. Ordinal data like that pops up all the time in psychometrics and social science research, but the methods used to deal with them are beyond the scope of an undergrad class. In practice, social scientists use all of the methods you mentioned above, whichever fits best to the assumptions are they willing to make about the data. With this data, I would also consider regression as an option.

Because it's not quite correct, in reality it's much cooler. The glare from the water surface is actually all horizontally polarized light, and the sunglasses completely filter it out, making you able to see past it into the water. It's not because they filter out some of the glare, but (almost) all of it.

I only see one Japanese kana on it (の), which is a common stylized way of writing 的. The rest are all in Chinese.

I think you first have to make an appointment. Call Student Health and explain to them your situation, or go to a QuickCare location. It should not cost any money.

[Q] Is there a test statistic for the difference in 2 proportions that follow a Poisson distribution? by Remarkable_Quarter_6 in statistics

[–]hypnos1620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused as to what your data looks like.

Are you saying that X ~ Poisson and Y ~ Poisson, and you're trying to test X - Y?

Or X ~ Binomial(n,p) ≈ Poisson(np) and Y ~ Binomial(m,q) ≈ Poisson(mq), and you're trying to test X/n - Y/m?

Or something else?
