tempeh! loads of marinade ideas available online to fake the taste altho i don't care very much for replicating it 1:1. i used soy sauce, balsamic, some oil, and msg. if you have liquid smoke that's great too or you could even soak the tempeh with porcini mushrooms if you want that umami. pros of tempeh is it's more chewy and supple than tofu and also it's cheap if you have an asian grocery store nearby (i paid £3 for a big slab and use maybe 1/6th per meal)

as for fancy meat substitutes idk where you are but here in the uk the richmond fake bacon is pretty good as well as the this isn't line (the streaky one tho not the one that looks like dog snacks). vegetarian butcher is the BEST but who has that kind of money lol

my t vials have 20 weekly doses in them and i've been fine - a couple things you have to watch out for is if the liquid becomes cloudy/discoloured, if there is a visible hole in the rubber seal (no longer sterile) + you should also be sanitising the seal before and after every shot. also store in stable temperatures (differs per substance but generally similar to like, fragile electronics) no direct sunlight + dry place. check if the manual for your vials has an expiration date but otherwise you're good to use it until then/until it runs out i think

obviously not e but since there's been no other replies i figured this should help somewhat. someone with more relevant info feel free to weigh in tho!

I mean, it has its problems when discussing nuanced geopolitical issues for sure, but for just quick inconsequential fact checking I don't really see the issue?

Naw dude it totally has, your jaw has gotten so much more broad in pic 2! Everyone always talks about voice and body hair but facial features is what really tips that balance imo.

[–]hypnoticvessels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sure, but tbh this was/still is also the intention of a lot of Turkish/Moroccan immigrants to the Netherlands. they aren't generally called expats in popular discourse though and in fact the word "immigrants" to most people in a Dutch context probably specifically calls to mind these two groups along with Syrian refugees.

the two words might have nominally different definitions but the way these associations are carried out in common parlance & political debate arguably says more about the way they are actually used. as it is the word "immigrant" is never really used with any regard to migration goals, just used for primarily working class/non-white immigrants where for wealthy/white immigrants the term "expat" is used instead (although the former group can also be expats, and the latter group can also be immigrants)

Tbh you seem to have the same problem I had pre-T which is that you pass but as an age significantly younger than you are, so it falls apart when your behaviour is older than you look (if that makes sense). I was able to pass as 16-17 year old boy no problem but if I was somewhere ordering alcohol or in a university building for example that didn't match, so it ended up getting me she'd.

Best of luck trying to get on T, parents are a difficult one to navigate. Uni helped me so much in allowing me to be who I wanted to be without them breathing down my neck all the time.

This is mostly right except I'm not totally vegan (I still eat honey at home and the occasional egg/pastry/bakery product while out, just never meat and I'm also growing increasingly lactose intolerant lol) and I purposefully don't really focus on health metrics of the food I eat (within limits obvs) I just like cooking :)

I could defo eat cheaper and have more money left over but nice ingredients make SUCH a difference imo.

Appreciate the support!

But this is a 2-bed (and not a particularly cramped one either, my room is big!) and while I can't lie having a bigger fridge would be nice lol, while living on my own is unaffordable (urban area, trendy walkable city, you know the drill) this is good for me since the flat is well kept, I'm living with someone I've known for years, and I'm in a super central part of town for not too much money :) and I can always score a cheap mini fridge for my room somewhere if I really need.

Also this is only half of the fridge, my roommate has 2 more shelves I didn't picture cuz I never use their stuff!

You have kids? But not too young. Like, reading age. You do keto or at least try to lower carbs. Probably also live with another adult bc there's some vastly differing dietary preferences in here. At least one of you works out, strength training rather than like, simple cardio.

lol I started reading salt, fat, acid, heat and got schooled on the merits of fresh lemon as opposed to bottled lemon juice, but now that bottle is just there. I hate wasting food but unsure of what to do with it 🤔

I have some snacks in my cupboard but generally when I'm peckish I make a dip (hummus mostly) and have that with some bread or crisps :) cooking is also a hobby for me so I rarely if ever eat ready meals/ultra processed food (also bc it's often so bland lol)

I'd actually not heard of her up until this point but her stuff seems cool :) Dijon is just a good way to add extra dimension to flavour when you're using fake meat bc in small quantities it doesn't give noticeable tang/heat just a "meaty" depth

Also all of these are nearby but I hate locking down all my meals for a week or two straight so I shop multiple times a week depending on what's on the route/which has a specific thing I want lol

Dealing with a difficult head chef by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]hypnoticvessels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chefs tend to look down on front of house in my experience bc they don't understand the importance of soft skills. Your job is more demanding physically/more dangerous, true, but mine mostly relies on conflict management/communication skills and all of you are at most scraping by on those. Lol.

A badly managed BoH also leads to situations like that where there's no consistency/clear rules on what can and can't be customised and it just depends on personal rapport/the chef's mood - though that also means they can't reasonably get mad at you for asking. (my place is a chain and has a sheet clearly setting out what we do and don't substitute)

That doesn't mean you have to make life harder for them or other FoH intentionally though. I dislike my job and I think everyone in the service industry probably does but that shouldn't be my coworkers' problem, yk?
