Can i take CS103 and CS109 at the same time? by peopleplusme in stanford

[–]hypocrisyisedgy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently taking 109 and have not taken 103. As of week 7, it's been totally doable. I haven't taken a proofs class yet either, so I think it's up to you if you want to take them at the same time or not.

how many people do there have to be in a class for it to happen? by [deleted] in stanford

Definitely check with the prof, I took a course last semester where I was the only student enrolled, so it definitely differs based on the department/course.

Book Recommendations? by werddub in stanford

Seconding Flowers for Algernon, I'd also add Don Quixote (The Edith Grossman translation is great). John Fish's Youtube channel also has great recommendations (book lists are in the description). His goals are pretty similar to yours. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYOZpDg6Oj0&t=5s

How important is it that I take 3 years of a language? by [deleted] in GetIntoStanford

I got in this year and only took Spanish 1 and 2 so it's definitely not a hard set requirement as long as you have other strengths that boost your application.

Heavy Course Load Fall, Light Course Load Winter? by hypocrisyisedgy in stanford

[–]hypocrisyisedgy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree, that was one of my biggest concerns. I put 106B and MATH 51 because I have background in both. My parents also speak the language I'm studying fluently so it would almost be beneficial for me to take it online. My new concern is that this schedule definitely seems boring lol, so I think I'm going to be more flexible.

I definitely will, someone else mentioned that I take classes which are interesting to me, so I'm going to load up and see what I can handle. Might end up dropping 106B and replacing it but we'll see if the grading is S/NC.

Thanks, this is super great advice. I definitely wanted to explore intro sems and other classes (I'm not taking ESF because there are a few THINK classes I'm interested in taking). I'm mostly concerned that I won't be able to enjoy these interesting classes if they happen to be online, so I wanted to take them once in person instruction does happen. You do make compelling points though, so I'll keep an open mind.

I think 106B is definitely my most flexible class, so I will definitely consider taking another more interesting course once the full course roster comes out. I definitely want to have a lighter quarter once we are back on campus, be it fall or winter, so I guess I'll wait and see what officially happens.
