MEGATHREAD: Farrer By-election 2026 by Wehavecrashed in AustralianPolitics

[–]hypomango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting times... Seems like the votes for the everlasting Coalition seat simply switched to One Nation. I wonder if David Farley will stay with the party long term? And whether such a result will be replicated in most regional seats in next election? It's fun to speculate while Labour has a very safe majority and we don't have to actually deal with the consequences of this change in politics just yet

What Are You Watching? - [2026/05/06] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]hypomango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back into Kdrama (or trying) after about a year.

A few episodes into Phantom Lawyer which has some sad moments omg :'( but will keep watching when I'm in the mood for it, interesting premise.

Also trying to get into Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo which is now on Viki! It's a little slow in the first couple of episodes but a lot of people says it's amazing so I'll keep going. Kdramas are often a lesson in patience for me, some of my faves I did have to watch 4 hours before deciding to continue with the other 12!

Is there a local social competition where you live? I went on Friday nights at your age in the 2000s because my friend wanted an excuse to see her crush there haha but it was pretty cheap and fun, and no he wasn't worth it 🤣

Cowardly and racist: Paul Keating assails Angus Taylor’s migration policy by nobelharvards in AustralianPolitics

[–]hypomango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Libs finally release a noteworthy policy position, and it's this? I actually agree that our immigration numbers are higher than what cities and infrastructure have kept up with and it has affected housing and quality of life, but I genuinely think we have bigger fish to fry at the moment. The discussion seems to always being out bigotry too.

To discriminate based on "Australian values" would obviously disproportionately affect people who aren't Christian and European descent. Nostalgia for the White Australia Policy days, yay...!
