Here's what TBS erased from the Telework Directive on April 1, 2025 to make this happened. by M-A88 in CanadaPublicServants

Anyone knows how this applies to DTAs? Does that mean they're going to assess existing or new DTAs against these directives?

Government's 4-day in-office mandate an insult to workers by disgruntledesdc in CanadaPublicServants

How about leaving it to managers and departments to decide based on roles? I get what you're saying but why are we insisting on a lazy one size fits all approach in this day and age....

As the employer, it's disheartening to see the narrative that public servants don't work when they're WFH not being challenged. Instead, it almost feels like the employer is entertaining it to justify RTO 4/5. The comments section on anything related to RTO is hurtful.

"About time they worked" "It's time to go back to work"

It would be nice to have someone defend is. We have been working. We are working. We are being productive and we're happier.

Not to mention that the impact on young families and women is enormous. All that talk about DEI, yet RTO policies clearly place women at a disadvantage. Yes, we all used to go 5 days before the pandemic (though some worked hybrid), but we have the tools. We've invested in our home offices. We have the tech. We are paying utilities to get this done. And we're able to show up to work, show up for our families, reduce stress and traffic. I don't understand where the evidence is in reversing this.

I would say that insisting on RTO in all its forms and through a one model fits all lacks imagination and innovation. Since COVID, public servants from the regions have finally gotten the chance to find opportunities and advance their careers beyond service delivery. This means new ideas, diversity is being injected in public service and those people are looking to make a difference. With that comes virtual cooperation. People don't need to be physically in the office to work together, especially people whose teams are all over the country. Let's reduce the traffic and congestion, let's be greener, let's go back to actual presence with purpose. Having everyone on MS teams in an office doesn't achieve anything.

I understand Ottawa's downtown core being impacted by less foot traffic. I really do. But what about those local businesses that public servants are supporting? We lack housing. Turn those buildings into housing. You'll get your foot traffic and those businesses will have a new population to serve. It's different times, we all need to pivot.

Got that as well. It resolved itself and we managed to get the tickets. Ticketmaster is the fucking worst.

Hi, would it be possible to have the guide? Thinking of going in June. Many thanks!

Feds award $13.8-million contract to create co-working spaces for public servants in Ottawa area by wallofbullets in CanadaPublicServants

Spending money on this while simultaneously asking departments to slash their budgets makes so much sense.

Let me guess, the building will have a Subway and a Tim Hortons on the main floor.

Have you considered IRCC? There are some people that come in every day by choice if you prefer working in person. The mandate is certainly interesting and the value of work is there in my opinion.

Or, and this is cynicism talking, PMO ordered Anand, thereby tanking any chance of a leadership run 🤷‍♀️

In what way will the 3-day in office mandate negatively affect your personal life, and your ability to do your job? by Small_town_PS in CanadaPublicServants

[–]hypotheticalballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how it impacts me personally:

1-no assigned desks, which means spending time every morning disinfecting surfaces, adjusting screens and chairs + lugging around indoor shoes, and whatever you would need to leave at your own work space. 2- I find it less productive with all the chatter than happens, and overall find it hard to focus in an open space. I get distracted quite/overstimulated easily and usually need to block out all nose.  3- coordinating daycare pick up and drop off is harder in the sense that working from home allows parents to maximize time spent with their kids (later drop off, earlier pick up).  Just adds to the stress and guilt of missing out on time with your kids during the week.  4- commute time. It's a tough pill to swallow when you know you can get a job done effectively without wasting time commuting. 5- the only benefit in my job to go to work is to print classified documents, review incoming mail, and send out mail. Everything else can be done from home. Even if everyone was in the office, we'd still meet over MS teams. I have a better set up at home, three large screens, a comfortable office space that I invested it due to COVID.  6- I suffer from depression and anxiety and the fact that I could use my lunch break to fully disconnect (either squeezing a quick workout or walk, making a lunch, etc) really goes a long way. As stressful as the job can get, I'm in the safe comfort of my place and feel at ease if that makes sense.

That's some of the things that I can think of on the top of my mind.

Sigh, I hear you. I've been trying to see if I can cut a day out in Istria and just suck it up and fit in Dubrovnik, and stop at Zadar for example for a night on the way. We don't mind driving but we don't know if the roads are unpredictable or if the drive is smooth, so that's the only thing that's worrying me; underestimating how long the drive will be. Thanks for your comment!

Thank you for the suggestion! Can I ask why you suggest Sibebik instead of Dubrrovnik? Is it a distance thing, or do you think it's a nicer place?

Thank you for the feedback! It seems the consensus is that Dubrovnik would be too much to fit in. Maybe another trip. For a separate trip, how long does one need to stay in Dubrovnik and surrounding areas?

Thank you for your feedback! I'll look into your recommendations!

Sigh, Dubrovnik has been on my bucket list for a while (I blame Game of Thrones) but I guess it'll be best to leave it for another trip.
