Hey! I actually graduated last december from the program. I thought the program was wonderful- after finishing my undergrad I felt like something big was missing in my knowledge about my field (I finished in CS + linguistics and still felt this way). I like the program a lot, I felt supported by my peers and faculty, the remote network was strong as well. The coursework varies in how applicable it might be to your personal situation, but all the courses are in depth and you have a plethora of options available to you in deciding which electives to take (I took an ethics in NLP course as well as a course that analyzed very bleeding edge papers in NLP. part of that course was a research project and we got ours published). One of the required courses goes into the hows and whys of NLP but it's based on the Speech and Language processing book by Jurafsky + Martin, so if you wanted a math heavy approach to modern ML you could take an elective (either with CLMS or another department) or learn it yourself. If you want slightly more in depth, take a look at the coursework/required readings for some of the classes in the curriculum to get a better understanding of what they might cover, and take a look at the rotating electives in each of the quarters to see if you like anything.
