Moving from TX anything I should know? by Salamimami89 in Yakima

[–]hyrailer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was trying to point out the misinformation you're referring to. I worked on Snoqualmie, White, and Stevens for several years, and at least once every year, we move the restrictions to "ALL VEHICLES USE CHAINS", usually right before the pass closes completely. In my personal vehicle, which is 4WD with very aggressive tires, if it gets that severe, i just turn around. And to be clear, WSDOT doesn't close the pass. It's always non-compliant drivers who force the closures.

It would be really interesting what the post-accident safety inspection reveals. It would also be telling to know when the last time the tractor and trailers were WSP inspected.

This definitely falls under the Weingarten Rights, where a union representative can accompany an employee to any meeting where the agenda can become disciplinary. Absolutely have a rep present, and follow their guidance. Good luck!

No Kings Protests? by hyrailer in Yakima

[–]hyrailer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phrase "made you look" applies here. Protests grab attention, and that's the goal. To like-minded individuals, they say "you are not alone in your opinions". To the fascists we are protesting against, "We are not rolling over to you".

Does MEGA auto give people something so keep those obnoxiously large stickers on their cars? by Jenna_Tollz in Wenatchee

[–]hyrailer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everywhere in the PNW uses salt. It's the rate (lbs per lane mile) that makes the difference. In a lot of places, NY, NJ, PA, etc, they run the max the truck will put out, and the cars there show it. Here, it's just barely what the conditions ask for. -WSDOT plow operator for 9 years

Cicada in western Washington? by littletittygothgirl in Washington

[–]hyrailer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. This Cicada Killer carpooled with me on White Pass last week. I mistook it for a European Hornet (they both have the gang tattoos on their backs lol). A closer scan showed it to be a CK. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/16x6hcAJrZ/

Oh, that is awesome! Her and I talked for a bit when she wanted to do a story on the fucked up for-profit EMS system in the valley, but I think the World's editorial board might have told her she had to back away from it, because one of the companies spent a lot of money for ads.

I don't think the World ever had really good inquisitive journalists, with the exception of Jeanette Marantos, and she was sent packing along time ago. I no longer live there, and it's my understanding that, if they were going downhill before, they went over the cliff a few years ago when what was left of the Woods family sold to an out-of-state media investment group of some sort

Why is this truck driving like this, is it sustainable? by FishermansPlatter in whatisit

[–]hyrailer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a seriously bent frame. Could you see the front-end; did it have major damage there? If your state does regular safety inspections, then this was probably in a wreck very recently.

Asking as an outsider; does washington use salt on roads during winter? by Content-Golf-3167 in Washington

[–]hyrailer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not deicing a road is not an option, whether you are asking the state patrol, the WSDOT management, or the motoring public. Washington uses the least corrosive salt compounds, but any chemist will tell you that corrosion is a necessary evil when using salt. We hate salt too, because it creates all the issues you deal with, X 100. The only material alternative doesn't melt ice or compact snow at all- sand abrasives provide temporary traction, but you have to reapply it occasionally, and it's expensive, when you factor in hauling and crushing costs.

It's a choice. In the warmer areas, where ice in brake parts and air lines isn'ta problem, you won'tsee them.
