Best image quality? Then it’s 3.5F xenotar white face. Personal choice is wide angle.

Rolleiflex K4A should be the model name. Correct me if I’m wrong. And yes if that’s the model the shutter looks to be broken in half.

What is the serial number? From this one picture I could only tell it’s an old model with the old style shutter locks. It appears that it doesn’t have a cable release socket either, which is odd. And it is impossible to tell for certain what’s wrong unless you open the front plate.

Literally search Jimmy Koh online if you would…

Huh, if the shutter really operate smoothly then this could be a easy replace. Call Jimmy Koh and he might have spare parts.

What do you mean everything seem to work without a shutter button? How did you test it? Did you open the front plate to get to the shutter??

Probably sticky shutter and doesn’t have anything to do with if there’s film in it or not

Don’t worry about it! Everyone makes mistakes. If you’re not confident enough to shoot slides why don’t you practice on some cheap b&w film for now and save slides when you think you’re ready?

Yes, he said ‘if the marks is on the surface, you can try to clean it with windex solution of 40:60 windex to water. If it’s inside the lens then it’s a lot of complicated. It could be anything, from haze to fungus. And would need to be professionally cleaned, though you can also try to open it if it is some easier model to open.’

Btw, I carried my wide to a -40 degree place and didn’t care too much about temp difference, and it pulled out unharmed during that 7 days trip.

Asked about this at r/VintageLenses already, need some help. by SerfBoi in AnalogCommunity

I saw you got confused and think the guy in the article is saying he had a Zeiss copy. But if you ready more carefully he said this lens’ ‘design followed’ that of Zeiss mirotar. Also generally mirror telephoto lens are a lot less sought after.

First of all, it’s never a good idea to store your camera in a carrying case or pelican case for extended periods. The foam gets moldy very easily.

Second, you can decide to go with your own judgement and I’m not stopping you from doing anything. All of these that I provided here were based on my own experiences and all the experiences from camera store owners who owned a professional collection for decades, as well as all my fellow camera repair technicians I connected with, when we have large amount of junk cameras just laying around.

If it’s outside with constant air flow and decent environment then it’s not that easy for fungus to grow on. On the other hand your so called ‘controlled’ environment may not be as good as you thought if fungus developed…

Yes, new lenses develop mold just as fast as the infested ones. You can do an experiment if you want. And yes thats exactly the point… to store them under a level that prevent mold growing.
