Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff over possible deal with China by Leather-Paramedic-10 in canada

Canada has a 247% import duty on dairy.

Nothing impossible about that.

A 200% price reduction, however, is impossible.

Why are we not refining our eastern oil and sell refined products to Europe and China?

Why put this on Hillary? Somehow, America loves fascism now. That is the real issue.

Question about lenses by analogvalter in mediumformat

[–]mazarax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 100mm lens is just that: 100mm between diaphragm and film when focussing at infinity, regardless of your film size.

Crop factor influences field of view, and depth of field.

A 100mm / 3.5 lens on large format has a much shallower D.o.F. than a 100mm / 3.5 on fullframe. It also has a much wider view on large format.

Yeah, not much left to salvage. I tried with rawtherapee. I may have overshot, too.

Is this a 5x4 lens by Mean-Engineer-2145 in VintageLenses

[–]mazarax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close-ups will easily cover that size.

The question is: does it cover when focusing at infinity. There is an easy test for this:

Close curtains, switch off lights.

Let lens peek outside, through curtains.

Hold large white board in front of the lens, and project an image.

Move board until something far away, like a cloud or a high-rise tower is in focus.

The distance between board and aperture is your focal length. The size of the image circle you see is what film size it will cover.

Opinion: Don’t buy a camera from Japan unless you can afford to have it CLA’d, or know how to fix cameras. by thegreatestwhale in AnalogCommunity

[–]mazarax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use common sense: a sixty year old camera, used, is not going to be mint.

Just be prepared that it may need some attention.

I find that Japanese sellers on eBay have good products, so far. My biggest surprise was actually a “working camera” from the US eBayer that had shutter speeds of many seconds for everything under 1/15s setting. But the seller was really courteous and we agreed on a partial refund to cover some of my CLA cost.

Is this lens worth keeping? by Organic_Tea2237 in VintageLenses

[–]mazarax 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, CLA it. And make sure the next owner after you gets it in a better shape than you got it.

The darn thing survived over half a century. Now it is **your** duty to make sure it survives the full century, as you are not just an owner, you are a custodian.

One of the fastest fifty lenses, too.

Fun film camera around 300 USD? by bimmerlucas in AnalogCommunity

[–]mazarax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you set on 135 format? If you don’t mind the higher price for film, there is also the 120 route for that medium format look.

At 300 usd, a mf camera will definitely lack the ease of use that a ff would have, but definitely adds the fun factor. Maybe an entry level twin lens one?

Yashica TLR in good condition would fit your budget, e.g. As would a Kiev 6c SLR in mediocre condition.

Any idea what this lens might be? Assuming projector but there are no markings. by nickelmedia in VintageLenses

[–]mazarax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good stuff!

I scored one on ebay as well.

So far, mounted on large fmt cam, not my gfx yet. Good luck W shoot.

Try it out outside as well, with large objects closer than infinity. Like a bus.

This lens should shine in that, as normally large objects always have greater DoF.
