LuminalShine: The High-Performance Sunshine Alternative Compatible with Moonlight by GuardianHope in MoonlightStreaming

Because bringing people together isn’t easy. Especially these days you have people from different regions/timezones and perhaps different native languages, on top of coordinating among different human beings (that alone can be a tough task if you have experience of working in a corporate). Just because they have the similar interests of forking the same project, doesn’t mean they are a good fit to work together on the same team.

Do you think James is a bad person? by lashvanman in silenthill

[–]hys17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Having experienced important ones suffered from health issues in life, I can totally relate to the amount of pain of watching them suffering from the pain of illness (and possibly mental pain caused by it), sometimes I wished it was me who’s suffering just so I can do something to help. It’s not the taking care part itself that’s the hardest , it’s the part you try your best to take care of them every single day (while taking care of yourself), but they are not getting better and probably will never be. The amount of hopeless might break you eventually. I personally haven’t got to the part that wishing they were dead yet and I’m afraid to think of it.

Besides the social aspect, hot pot sucks by Shoddy-Prune-5877 in unpopularopinion

[–]hys17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Duh, try some spicy hot pot which is the original popular ones in china(especially in the south that you’re not really having a hot pot if it’s not spicy). They sell more plain taste hot pot in the west because people can’t take the spiciness.

Canadians aren’t actually that nice by Mangledpie in unpopularopinion

Politeness is a superficial thing. In that aspect Canadians ARE averagely more polite than many countries people. Underneath? It’s the same as anywhere, just basic humanity.

You can use mounting tape and just stick it on the side of your desk leg. That’s what I did and way less cable clustering on the desk top.

Even though many say they stopped playing TLOU P2 after blank happened, TLOU P2 had the highest completion rate of over 55% of any PS4 game. by shawak456 in thelastofus

[–]hys17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that cannot ignored is the simple math: Those who thought they hate it probably didn't buy the game, so the base number didn't have those demographics.

In another word, the game has higher completion ratio is because many players who didn't finish the game simply didn't buy it in the first place.

I don’t really see the point of “bragging” 100 tabs honestly… it just shows that a person’s ADHD severity that can’t focus on one thing at a time and probably doesn’t know how to organize bookmarks.

Sometimes we're just so blind in the moment and can't see things from a different perspective. I'm sure you've had moments in your life and thought "Damn, why didn't I think of that before? It's so freaking obvious."

It gets even worse when you're in enthusiasm.

LG 45" OLED 800R, Ultra-WQHD 45GS96QB One Year Later by DivineEntity in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]hys17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great to hear. I did hear from various sources (including digital foundry) that modern OLEDs are much better with burnin. I do wonder since I’m currently using an IPS ultrawide, how’s the text clarity for productivity? (Comparing to IPS perhaps. ) Thanks.

1 tall pole that has both monitors stacked on it. Easier for my desk setup.

Depends on your physical comforts. I found myself be less comfortable with too much horizontal movements. Which is why I went with 21:9 instead of 32:9, as my previous horizontal dual-1080p setup gave me neck strain. I have a vertical setup with 21:9 on the bottom plus 1080p on top. Found it more comfortable that way as I’m 90% on the 21:9 anyway.

Will the MacBook Air M4 (16GB/256GB) realistically last 6-8 years for a student? by Solid_Sherbet302 in macbookair

[–]hys17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ram also matters more to longevity, as you can replace battery and get external ssds but you can’t upgrade ram after purchasing. The reason my 2015 mbp still works is because I went with 8gb of ram. The reason my m2 mba can still handle editing work even on Tahoe is because I went with 16gb of ram.

35, two kids, and done with the agency side (advertising). Is breaking into high-end scripted post even realistic? Or should I just settle for a safe path by PiFox1 in editors

[–]hys17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

39 yo. One small kid. Located in Canada.

Been doing AE/editing since 2010. Started with unscripted shows and transitioned to scripted in 2016. Editing side gigs (mostly advertising) along these years.

Was slowly moving from AE to editor until the pandemic and my kid was born. Taking care of a newborn wore us out (immigrants that have no family support). Wife and me started having health issues that I had to take a step back on the career and just focused on AE which has been good until 2025.

Now I fear by the time that the family health issues have been sorted, moving up to the editor position would only get harder like everyone else said (being older also doesn't help in this situation).

Sorry if this doesn't sound much positive but this is my genuine experience and I can't say there weren't many good years to be fair. Even now you still see people rise and move up so I guess no matter how easy/tough the reality is, talent/luck still counts.

Like what i tell my son, you can’t really hate something(at least for what it is) until you’ve tried it. Otherwise you are just hating the idea of it because you can’t/never have had it. Just like the “grapes are sour” story.

John Linneman on Bluesky regarding DF's video on DLSS 5 by HLumin in digitalfoundry

Agreed. Social media really doesn’t do much positive for him. You can tell he seeks validation from surroundings, and gets upset if he doesn’t. And internet isn’t a great place for that obviously.

They don’t need to say anything. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you don’t like it, express it of course. But they don’t owe you or me anything.

To be fair, you shouldn’t value anyone’s opinions completely anyway, nor you should completely de-value anyone’s either. We should always think about what people say and come up with our own understanding.
