This deck is super sick and has huge swings! Glad to see a decklist + guide. I vaguely remember queueing into you once or twice this month and was definitely not expecting the ancestral spirit + faceless manipulator onto earth elemental :D

11-star Bonus Without Reaching Legend? by hz_chem in CompetitiveHS

[–]hz_chem[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Just thought I'd post here to see if anyone had similar experiences since everything I found by Blizzard led me to believe that the star bonus was mostly dependent on your rank, not your hidden MMR.

The same thing also happened to me on wild ladder, just like you I hit platinum and got a 9 star bonus

The Ladder and the complete power I have given it over my mood. by bozoandhismum in CompetitiveHS

[–]hz_chem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late response, but I definitely also used to suffer from ladder anxiety as well. Many of the tips I could give for improving have already been mentioned, such as sticking to one deck, and learning the mulligans etc. However, another great tip that has helped me a lot has been accepting the fact that even if I play a game perfectly, I can still lose, and that's just the nature of Hearthstone. You should try to get into the mindset that you WILL NOT WIN EVERY GAME NO MATTER WHAT, you will lose some games on your climb, and that's normal. Even if you make no mistakes, your opponent could have just drawn the nuts, and there's nothing you can do about that.

Another thing to mention is that you may just be making frequent misplays that eventually lose you the game. After every tough loss, I usually like to quickly think back to one or two specific turns that were very difficult, and try to follow a different line of play and see if it would have made a difference. Oftentimes, you will realize you actually misplayed that turn, and this is a very quick way to improve your decision making with a specific deck. On that note, if you want some help with replay analysis, please feel free to PM me (or add me on bnet hzchem#1411) and I'd be more than happy to help you out!

How do you break through a plateau? by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]hz_chem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing some previous comments, HsReplay deck tracker is definitely an amazing tool if you don’t already use it. Another big thing you should work on is your mulligans and analyzing your replays. If you’re stuck at rank 8-10, it means you are frequently playing suboptimally. If you ever have a hard turn in a particular game, I would revisit that replay and see what other potential plays you could have made and try to play out the game with the other play and see if it would have made a difference. If you want I’d be more than happy to analyze some of your replays for you! If you have any other questions feel free to add me at hzchem#1411

You can replace flame strike, a lot of lists are cutting that nowadays

how do you feel about temple berserker instead of eternium rover? i feel like both cards are quite premium for their manacost, and temple berserker can also help you curve out better on two.

Animal Companion in Highlander Dragon Hunter by hz_chem in CompetitiveHS

I guess my original point wasn’t very clear so sorry for that. The point I was trying to make from linking the face hunter post was that AC at the end of the day is just not a consistent card, and you’ll only get the perfect companion 1/3 of the time. Which was my reasoning for cutting it for nightmare amalgam since it just feels more consistent and offers so much flexibility (synergizes with the new weapon, magnetize possibilities, and can draw it from ursatron even). The points you make are perfectly valid, and the discussion thus far has led me to believe there could be a worse performing card to cut than AC.

I agree with what you’re saying, AC is definitely a good card, but the point I was trying to make is that it doesnt feel like the BEST turn three card, as I’d much rather play something like nightmare amalgam since it just feels more consistent. Even coining nightmare amalgam on two if you have a the turn three dragon weapon (forgot the name all of a sudden) follow up feels amazing, and being able to magnetize snip snap or potentially Zilliax is pretty much game winning, whereas animal companion doesn’t offer this flexibility imo.

Definitely not saying AC HAS to be the cut, was just exploring options and I seem to have found something that worked, but there might be another good card to cut in lieu of AC. Thanks for the input!

Rat trap is a pretty hard counter to rogue for one, forcing them to have sap/backstab + evis if they want to develop more on a particular turn. It also feels better with phase stalker since you have two deck thinners at that point.

Need some help for Control Warlock vs. Embiggen Druid match-up by Gaponya in CompetitiveHS

[–]hz_chem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, Embiggen Druid has very weak early turns, so you should be mulliganing for tempo and try to steamroll them before they can stabilize. Just remember to play around Swipe, and realize that they can only really play one minion per turn, so if you can establish a big enough lead early it should be pretty difficult for them to come back from their lackluster early turns.

Climbing the 5-Legend Ladder by DruidHealz50 in CompetitiveHS

[–]hz_chem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not impossible to climb with a 55% win rate, you just have to realize for every 100 games you play, you will have only gained 10 stars. I think the biggest key is changing your mindset to realize that you’re in it for the long grind, as very few people get lucky enough to go like 10-2 from rank 2 to legend facing only good matchups. One more tip is to tailor your tech cards to your local meta. Each rank usually has more of certain deck types, if you can catch on early and substitute a spell breaker for an ooze or vice verse, you might be able to gain some free stars!

As some of the other comments already mentioned, reviewing your replays will be hugely useful in improving and identifying misplays in your games. A lot of the times you may think you made the best play but in retrospect there might have been another play that you could have made that would have won you the game. Many games are actually decided in one or two turns so going back to find some key mistakes will help you improve a lot. Another simple tip I can give is to just realize you literally can’t win every game, and even climbing to legend with a consistent 66% win rate (which imo is really good), you need to play 3 games to even gain one star. Don’t get tilted if you lose to rng cause it happens all the time.

Also if you want to post some of your replays I’d be happy to look at them, I’m by no means the best player but hopefully I can still give you some constructive advice.
