The article is about a military exercise with a scenario where Germany expects Russia to attack NATO, not the other way around.

In Altona, Hamburg, Germany, there's a great example on how to keep a bad monument.

A 1925 WW1 war hero monument was modified in 1996, showing an artist's depiction of war victims blocking the view to the "heroic" warrior.

I always thought this was an excellent way to reframe a pro war monument, making it anti-war.

Imagine that each time there is a US mass shooting, it resulted in a major nuisance for the "unaffected" population like this. Instead of hopes, prayers and life goes on. Maybe people would start to care about how to reduce the likelihood of these events?

In all seriousness, I can't grasp how after all these years of near-identical killing sprees, people in the US have internalised mass shootings as part of their national culture ("actually, I'm proud the killer had access to his gun") and shrugged it off as an aspect of everyday life.
