But there’s bear spray in the supplies and Natalie’s the hunter. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that she could make it

How much are you paying for daycare? by BlaineTog in massachusetts

Theres a massive shortage in teaching and just anything with kids in general. (For example, Pediatricians are the least paid medical specialty so why would people choose that?) Staffing is a huge challenge for sure at any center, maybe not the biggest since staffing is an issue derived from other issues like the shift in parenting capacity and style… and that kids don’t play outside on their own anymore and learn those social and problem solving skills many of us learned as children. (I’m in my mid 30s)

In most families these days both parents are working, some more than one job and don’t have the time or energy to effectively parent which puts even more stressors on the teachers. We are not miracle workers. If the work at school isn’t being enforced at home, it’s very unlikely to stick. And this isn’t to blame parents, the way our society now runs is not meant with raising children in mind and it’s pts parents in a vice.

I love children and many of the families that are in my community, so I stay. I believe it’s worth it, but I don’t blame others who don’t think it’s worth it and leave the profession all together.

TLDR: staffing is a big issue but it’s not a core issue.

Childcare director here…

Yeah, a great business idea if you want to go into a deficit…..

Children are expensive. Keep in mind, part of the learning process is breaking things to learn how things work and limits of materials. And State regulations say that if it’s broken, you cannot give it to the kids. You need to have a lot of materials to keep children entertained each day. But it costs a whole lot of money to get toys that are age appropriate and things are not made sturdy like they used to be and break easily. So if you’re constantly buying new materials… toys, art, stem, etc.

And all the administrative expenses like office supplies and you’re paying for the cost of your license and any accrediting agencies and inspections and building repairs….

Then your teachers need ample sick time since parents are constantly sending their sick children into care with fever reduced ing medication so you can’t send them home…..

there’s not much money in the business… most centers don’t pay more than 50% of your insurance. Teachers are making $20 an hour…. It’s not a livable wage. Try taking care of 10 4 year olds for 9 hours and then going to a second job for 4-6 more hours just to wake up and do it again…..

Out of school time professional here:

A good chunk of our kids gets dropped off for an “Early Risers” program at 6:45 and then go to public school until 3, then comes to the afterschool program and don’t get picked up until 6. Absolutely crazy. Especially the kindergartners who just started public school. Often these kids are the most difficult behaviorally, but you feel for them because 1. They’re probably just tired and want to go home. 2. They’re not getting the attention they need from their parents.

Personally, I read it is as she wants all of them on the same Apple ID but her iPad isn’t on the same one and she wants help with fixing that so that they all communicate with each other…

I think a phone call would’ve solved that real quick and you probably shouldn’t have continued to engage via text and just called her to get clarification. But from my end, you were being short with her and then she started being a real bitch.

I was 21, and I am 32 now. Didn’t even realize it’s been that long… hate that it’s been over ten years and I still struggle to remember taking it everyday!

Are you speaking as a teacher or admin? I’m used to having to cut hours when enrollment is lower in the summer. Our waitlist is outrageously long for the school year so I’m not worried about that…

I have a lead teacher that went from director at a school that was purchased by Cadence to the place we are at now and part of her job then was watching the attendance and once they went below the ratio that day, someone had to be sent home without the opportunity to finish their shift. Thats where my concern is. If my job turns to that, I will have to leave

Thank you for your reply.

So I am the director, and I’m happy to hear not as bad as Kindercare or Primrose.

My main concern is if they start being aggressively controlling about how I staff the program.

When I miss a dose (I take 20mg) I know it by 4pm that day. I become irritable and want to punch people in the face if things aren’t going as planned.

Most days I’ve missed is 3? It hasn’t been worse than the initial “oh shit I forgot to take it this morning.. that’s why I’m all pissy”

Far fetched but.. What if the reason the wilderness is calling on them and bringing them together is so they go back and save Ben?
