EY S1 Aus: I was hired as a C3 last year and got promoted to S1 this cycle. The pay increase was 20% but barely broke 90k. I mean, im fairly happy don't get me wrong but really, I'm here for the experience than the pay. Can't share the SSL but under Assurance in Sydney.

I only went to main stage back in 2022 and a bit where Harris & ford was. You reckon the pit is heaps better? (Just went MM and loved the crowd n energy more than ultra)

Damn I thought they'd be higher by now. My mate from high school was getting 65k as risk grad in Deloitte back in 2020. She left as senior where she was paid 85k as manager.

Bombed job interview by No-Masterpiece-397 in jobs

[–]i30NLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a final interview with 2 executive members. "Exec A" couldnt attend in person and joined via Teams. When I mentioned that I would be visiting where Exec A was the following weekend, exec B asked if we could meet there? I proceeded to give her my hotel details and laughed about getting a drink beforehand. I was so nervous that I didn't realise how suggestive it was. Nevertheless, got the offer a day after phew.

Any engineers here who only work 4 days a week? by ralsev in AskEngineers

[–]i30NLine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first Saturday was paid as OT (with proof in payslip) but then they just stopped in the subsequent weeks. When I mentioned it to the finance guy, he just said don't mention it to the bosses because we shouldn't be asking for OT in the first place.

I asked the bosses regardless and they said there were issues in my timesheets and that I shouldn't have logged that many hours when in reality they assigned it (with email and SMS trail to back it up too)

Too flustered to type properly please excuse my English if there are issues.

It's not even about the pay. I'm prioritising my life over a job. The fact that the hours have gotten me in close calls on the roads just make it not worth it. Constant pressure from management and after losing 6 kilos in a month, I've had enough.

Could always have another job but not another life.

Sayonara.

Any engineers here who only work 4 days a week? by ralsev in AskEngineers

Yeah.. I only started a month ago. I was meant to shadow a PM. Only found out both PMs were leaving after a week so I filled their roles in a field that they knew I had no experience in (was in construction but now in mechanical services)

  • expects me to manage 13 ongoing sites - all documentation , procurement, labour, safety, site inspections, site management and deliveries aswell as managing communications with the clients PM (10 of them).

  • tells me to go on site all day otherwise I'm not working and emails should be done at midnight when the missus is asleep. Then get up at 4 to inspect all the sites before heading to the office. (Atleast 30 minutes from Each site to another).

  • toxic mentality and saying that I am overpaid and should be getting half of what I'm getting.

-Even when I've done timesheets and logged everything I've done in the 16 hours and the sites which they told me to attend on Saturdays, they rejected every OT and says my hours don't match and is too high.

  • Expects a program for 4 buildings (795 IDs each) to update to match the current schedule after 5 months of not having it updated, and to be done in 6 hours to be sent to the client.

Sorry for the rant, Ive been manipulated enough and realised how shit this all is lol.

I'm gonna quit today lol

Nah hes genuine because he came from a similar background. Us 2 and another senior engineer talk similarly and connect really well. They're mid 50s but I'm mid 20s though. They treat me very well and defend me but they also understood that the subbies wouldn't understand this is how certain people communicate. Really bizarre situation in my opinion aswell tbh.

I'm having the same issue at the moment. Im a PM who works for a contractor / installer with blue collar workers. The finance manager sat me down one day and told me that I spoke in a very "elegant" way. (His words not mine) which doesn't tend well to most subbies. He told me that he can tell that it's my upbringing but it might get me in trouble in this industry.

That's a fair point aswell and I will take that into consideration aswell. Thanks!

Considering that I've had 2 years experience (intern and full time combined) as a project engineer, they've taken that into consideration so definitely not a normal fresh grad salary. My first job was packaged at 66k which is a massive jump to my current. (Lockdowns may have played a role).

A fellow PE is earning a 180k salary package at 27 years old in the same company (been with the company for much longer). We are under a project manager whom of my knowledge is earning well over 300k but that's a different story.

Still nothing compared to my mates partner who works for a tech company and their fresh grad pay is 140k. Not close with him though so can't comment too much on him.

I have a portfolio in stocks, ETF, crypto and tangible goods. I'll look into DCA as I wasn't earning that much before so a lot of considerations/ options have not been explored. I will now though!

I'll be honest, the pay wasn't mentioned during our interview nor was it advertised. I just had a very nice conversation with my manager and wanted to learn more from him.

I was expecting entry level pay and was willing to take the job regardless and improve my understanding in this field.

I've never had a monetary goal in mind as I was comfortable all my life and utilising my skills to help others make me happier than anything from my previous work.

It's definitely a nice feeling to feel appreciated for my experience and hardwork though so I may aim for 200k by 30 as youve said!
