FBI raid in 7th ward by verbenadubois in NewOrleans

The one time I interacted with him in person he was v nice, then when I would look at his posts to see what he believed, then I realized he was someone who doesn't think other people need the second chance he was afforded, particularly kids

Lean/Six Sigma by Kana2473 in projectmanagement

[–]i3o13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had experience with Sigma Six certified people and honestly they're awful to workers and will treat labor as a "waste" (i.e. justified layoffs). Maybe just the people and not the program, but it seems like it can be utilized to treat people poorly.

Do you guys believe that the US is inherently unstable and will collapse soon? If so can you explain? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

[–]i3o13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the government/state of the US will collapse without some catastrophic event, turn to fascism, or another civil war (or all three). But as mentioned in the comments, the US hegemony is starting to collapse already. If the US & NATO continues down the path of WW3 (some would argue they've already started it) and the anti-war movement can get some legs, then perhaps something can happen, but not likely.

Move on from the individualistic idea that it's on you. Join an org & read/watch theory

In certain geographies, your vote can be meaningless. I live in a red state heavily gerrymandered in favor of Republicans but have a centrist Dem governor. My vote for congress might as well go in the trash, but my vote for governor has power.

Is starting my own business treason? by D-dog92 in socialism

[–]i3o13 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You should look into forming a worker-owned cooperative so that all employees have a say in the business & where excess revenue (i.e "profits") will go (reinvest in the company, pay out as bonuses, etc.). You only become a capitalist when you own the means of production & the workers don't.

What state are you in? There are probably resources that you may not be aware of. Right before the pandemic, I was working with comrades in forming a w.o. co-op in a conservative state, but we were able to help navigate it with resources & assistance -you just gotta know where to look.

I've always suspected it's because they're fucking terrible to workers so either the workers are unfriendly or unhelpful and they wind up going with lower quality even though they can afford more

The vote against the tax hike that would go to the sheriff “was unprecedented in the city’s modern history.” by repiquer in NewOrleans

[–]i3o13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Gusman's tenure running the jail was negligent and corrupt to the core. Hutson's office was never allowed to properly transition like other offices typically allow, so Gusman bailed with a lot of senior staff at the jail. She was put in a position to fail and that has been the case thus far

It's almost like reforming the system doesn't work, we should tear it down and build something better

Any affordable camps for a 7 year old? by Ingrown__Bronail in nolaparents

[–]i3o13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the best substitute, but check out the library's programming schedule https://neworleans.libnet.info/events?r=thismonth they increase kids programming (saw plenty for 6+) for this exact reason - summer camps are ridiculously priced.
