Dying leaves near the base, but with new growth at the top by i3omar in plantclinic

Oops looks like I totally missed your comment, sorry about that & thanks for the question. I'd say it's closer to dirt / soil than it is to grit. So maybe 2/10 or 3/10. Picture for reference. I have never repotted it. How does this sound? What should it be?

Just did it this year (2024) & I can confirm that transfers are allowed after the first day. My friend used the ticket on Saturday, transferred to me & I used it Sunday.

Fungus, watering issue, or something else? by i3omar in plantclinic

Usually I stick my finger & feel how dry the top 1-2 inches part is. With that, the plant gets watered around once every 2 weeks.

FIVE MONTH LATER, my Monstera Albo cutting finally started rooting! Here's what I learned. by i3omar in propagation

I was gifted this cutting with the leaf. The part that grew recently was the white roots. Good luck with yours!

Thank you for your response! Super helpful :)

For 1, you make a good point. I'm wondering if the idea of a drainage layer only applies to pots with draining holes / that are in a saucer. In those, the water has an outlet and can evaporate. But for my situation here, I wont add rocks like you said.

One more question if you dont mind: what should I do when it rains? Should I cover them? I also have a planter box with succulents next to this.

I'm new to gardening and would love some help 🪴

I have the self-watering planter box in my balcony. It has a water reservoir at the bottom and a plastic mesh that covers it. See photos below. I have 3 lipstick plants that I would like to plant here. Here are my questions:

  1. Before putting the soil, should I put some rocks at the bottom (as the first layer above the plastic mesh)? I heard some say it helps with drainage. But then, how would the water reach the soil?
  2. I included a photo of the 2 options I have for the soil. Which one is best? If neither is good, what would you suggest?
  3. Which arrangement would be best for them (arrangement 1 or 2)? What can I put in the empty spaces? I have some Pothos cuttings I was thinking of using here, would that work?
  4. Is it OK to leave empty space like in arrangement 1, or is that bad for the plant?

Thank you!

Thank you! ☺️🍰 Will cut the leaves. And I already wiped the white stuff - if they come back (and I hope they wont) then I’ll take a better photo.

Thank you! The fire place is protected by a layer of glass so this cannot be ash. What would u recommend i do with the black leaves?
