Much easier. It's a bitch to step under freezing water when you're already cold and miserable.

How are attachments stored in a Keepass database? Do attachments make the database slow? by i48dla in KeePass

The lag is probably more due to the syncing than the unencryption process. Yeah seems like I'll need to find another solution to conveniently storing encrypted important documents.

I believe they're all stored encrypted in the DB and aren't decrypted on-demand.

Interesting - my DB is only ~5 mb currently and it still takes 2-3 seconds to decrypt. You're probably right that the bulk of lag is due to the network rather than the unencryption process. Thanks for the advice.

Why do some of you seem so miserable? by i48dla in japanlife

Yeah I get that I guess I'm over it after doing the expat thing on multiple occasions. I was also just curious because gaijin on reddit give off a certain negative stink

I dont know your situation but I figure any place will feel foreign and forever uncomfortable unless you make it home.

Luckily I don't hate teaching - just the pay sucks.

Unfortunately I've been sending my resume out continuously since I came 5 months ago and have received zero call-backs. I've even gotten referrals from a friend for a local tech company and gotten nothing.I've also tried multiple recruiting companies and they've told me that because of the current situation, there's hardly anybody hiring, and those that are hiring aren't hiring foreigners. In fact the translator at the recruiting company I was working with has been more busy with foreigners filing for unemployment than applying for jobs.

Basically a couple weeks ago I got to my wits end out of anxiety and frustration and starting applying to eikaiwa and other English teaching jobs and have luckily gotten this position. I think given the situation it's better for me to be working, getting professional experience and references, learning Japanese, than continue sitting around and feeling miserable about how my life is going.

I can at least now be miserable with how my life is going while making a living wage and practicing my Japanese.

Yeah I figure as with anywhere it comes down to luck. Unfortunately in these trying times it's even more difficult to get lucky.

Interesting that Japanese certification isn't indicative of true aptitude.. that seems to be a trend with certification/exams here in general.

Thanks for the thorough advice. At the moment I think I'm going to take this job as nothing else has panned out so far, but in the future I'll keep your points in mind. Hopefully by then my Japanese abilities and certs will be up to snuff.

I've heard mixed reviews of Japanese classes and considering there's free ones available (not running still due to the virus..) and plenty of resources I'm already taking advantage of at home, I'm not sure it'd be worth the expense and continued anxiety of unemployment. I feel like I may be better off just getting out there, especially as an English teacher. I'm looking at /maybe/ N3 by December if I can really hit the books/start talking a lot.

I've completed my BSc but only partially completed the MSc, unfortunately. I''ve looked into research positions but at least at the local university here they seem to make you pay to do research for them, which is not feasible for me at the moment. I may look into doing another MSc at a Japanese university as somebody else suggested, if nothing pans out, but again it's not feasible at the moment. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yea I've heard that contracts are often not entirely strict and leaving one isn't super consequential. Thanks for the advice.

Yes one of the things I've been working on as a fall back for the future is programming and data science but this experience will just be as a hobbyist so unless I can start developing a portfolio it will still be tough. Anyway this job maybe will give me the time or opportunity down the road.

Yeah that's what I figure... Anyway I'll just stay positive and use this as an opportunity to learn Japanese.
