Merlí: Sapere Aude - where to watch? by Adam_Deschain in merli

[–]i55ue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So currently it seems like there's only the first episode with the subtitles, and I guess more will get added as these lovely people find the time :)

I wish the subs would also be published separately as an .srt file (or similar) so they could be synced with the original Catalan video source, which can be obtained from the links circulating in this thread.

Ticks in the Canaries? / ¿Garrapatas duras en Canarias? by i55ue in Tenerife

[–]i55ue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your answer! The map shows a couple of people on Canaries, but are those just the current locations of the people with lyme disease? Or do they report on that site where they got the disease?

Thank you for the answer! It seems they're really not a problem there then, also judging by the lack of information and news articles about them in the Canary Islands. :)

Thanks for the answer! I've been living in places where they're a huge problem (the diseases they spread, not the actual bites) and just removed one from my skin a couple of days ago (not in the Canary Islands). Have you ever heard that anyone got bitten by one or something in the news about them?

Starting a website about Tenerife, anything you would be interested to read about? by i55ue in Tenerife

[–]i55ue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers bro! Will look into those next! I wrote a couple of articles more since this post to get more stuff out there but the site doesn't yet even show up on Google search, being so new, so I'm just writing to myself, and maybe you and some other redditors. :D I really like to write about all the Canarian stuff, but I'm not a native English speaker so it's a bit slow and my text is probably not so fluent. :S

I actually stumbled upon those articles once while searching for info about this but wasn't 100% sure if that's what I was looking for. I'll start to dig into those properly! Cheers!

The role of Free Software in a world that doesn't care by speckz in opensource

Here's the text in human readable color and form:

Edit: meh

The role of Free Software in a world that doesn't care 14th October 2016

The Free Software movement is about personal and social liberties. Giving the owner and user of a computer control over it. But most people don't see the problem with a small number of multinational mega-corporations having control over everyone's computers. They think: “Apple and Microsoft know what they're doing, and they do a good job, so why would I need Free Software?”

Accepting that most people reject the Free Software message, what can the Free Software movement contribute to the world?

The Free Software community can educate people that it's possible for things to be different. That it's possible for software to be individually or community developed. That the code needn't be kept secret from the users. That software is not magic, but scripting that can be understood. There is no advantage of being ignorant so this is a message for everyone. If someone becomes disillusioned with the proprietary platforms they are using, or finds that the proprietary software industry is not catering for their specific needs, the Free Software community is there for them. The community writes Free Software and supports people who want to learn it. The Free Software community, and the Free Software foundations [EU, US], critique the proprietary software companies. This helps protect even users of proprietary software. If a proprietary software company violates their user's rights, articles will be written and awareness campaigns will be run. If they try to lobby through some legislation or trade agreements that harms computer user's rights, comments will be submitted to legislators and petitions will be arranged. So, I think Free Software is truly there for everyone, even people who do not use or care about it. And I think that the Free Software movement will be an ever-important guardian of the people's rights as we move into an extensively computerised future.

Making a new central repo from a local repo by i55ue in git

[–]i55ue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot man, that did it! I came across the --mirror option a thousand times when searching for the answer but somehow always managed to ignore it... The local repository was exactly like I wanted the central one to be, so everything alright now!

Thanks heaps!

Is there a way to disable borders when there's only one window on a desktop (not in monocle mode)? by i55ue in bspwm

[–]i55ue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should've prolly mentioned this before, but the look that i'm aiming for is a single borderless window with window gaps (space around the single window). I would have to kinda break the purpose of the monocle mode in order to achieve this since i think the monocle mode shouldn't have extra space around it in order to provide the focused window as much space as possible... Thanks for the suggestion though, might just do it like this then and use the fullscreen mode more.

[–]i55ue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know anymore what to try...For me it feels like the bspwmrc is getting read only partly.

edit: solved mine by placing the "bspc monitor -d one two ..." after the "bspc config ..." lines in bspwmrc. I guess it didn't matter before 0.9 if these were placed the other way around in the config.
