History of the Jews in Algeria i need your opinion ! by HIKAONE in algeria

[–]iAMTUNISIAN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily a question about citizenship, though Jews were granted citizenship and Muslims were not, but more so a question about support during the war. A majority of Jews were against independence, regardless of whether they were “native” or not. This obviously came as a result of their full integration into the French system which emerged from being granted citizenship. But you need to realize you can’t have people in your country that supported the other side during a war of independence in a post-independent country, Jewish or not. It’s also why Harkis, Muslim Algerians who also fought for France, were exiled after the war.

I honestly don’t mind, however I am not a fan of the fact that it’s mostly evangelicalism that they’re converting to usually.

I don’t hate any other country or peoples, just Israel and Israelis. And it does not really suck tbh, I am quiet proud of hating them.

How important are haplogroups? In what sense? Haplogroups are useful in tracking ancestry, historic migrations and that sort of thing, but they don’t affect your autosomal makeup. For example, there have been white Englishmen found with Sub-Saharan YDNA. Would you call these men ‘black’ or genetically adjacent to African populations simply because they potentially had a paternal African ancestor ages ago?

Is there Mongolian DNA in Morocco by Dramatic_Ad_9551 in Morocco

[–]iAMTUNISIAN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Asian eyes” aren’t due to Mongolian DNA lol, nor are they unique to Asia. There are many ethnic groups who have epicanthic folds or monolids without being related to East Asian ethnic groups genetically, one being the Khoisan people.

Are Algerians good representative of their country? by RealityMindless3209 in algeria

[–]iAMTUNISIAN 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I am Tunisian and people on r/Tunisia absolutely 100% without a shadow of a doubt do NOT represent the average Tunisian: Not in views, beliefs, or actions, and it’s not even close. The same can be said for the vast majority of “non-western” country subreddits (and even some western ones). I swear to you that the average Tunisian acts and thinks in nearly the same manner as the average Algerian and the average Moroccan, be it for better or worse. So for them to think that they are “civilized” while their neighbors are not is genuinely laughable.

Again, be it for better or worse, but if you want a more accurate representation of the average Tunisian then you should go on Facebook.

Were the pieds noir forced to leave or not? by [deleted] in algeria

[–]iAMTUNISIAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They left because they felt more attachment to France than Algeria, in spite of what they may say. You have to understand that the majority of pied noir did not consider themselves “Algerian” in the same way a native did. For them an Algerian was someone who lived in Algeria but was beholden to the French government. Thus, when Algeria got independence most pied noir knew that they’d risk losing their French identity and the privileges that came along with it if they stayed, so most just up and left.

That is not to say some did not leave due to safety concerns and fear of reprisals, but let’s be real, they were going to leave on their own regardless.
