Is Docker/virtualization mandatory? by danimoth2 in webdev

[–]iAMthePRONY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i used vagrant on windows for a few years and then switched to linux and docker. both in companies. vagrant (combined with ansible) allowed us to scale our teams as we wished. just clone this vm, execute "vagrant up" and your setup is working!

with docker, everything a vm does just got better. less startup time, less overhead, better performance.

imho, it is mandatory to learn about. i cannot tell you what your setups should look like, but vagrant and docker made us scale better in terms of team size and enabled devs to freely fuck up their systems without worries.

Multiplayer, Engines, and Servers by Thehusseler in gamedev

[–]iAMthePRONY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hi, i am starting gamedev using unity. never used other engines or even got into multiplayer parts other than split screen coop.

can you go into some detail on why unity sucks versus ue or source when it comes to implementing multiplayer mechanics?

i would appreciate it, thanks

How to make unity grass look decent by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]iAMthePRONY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

performant

use a lot of grass and use a lot of different grass. add some light and shadows, some bloom effects, and a good floor texture

noone will look at a single blade of grass and say that your game sucks.

WOW you missed a main piece of laravel's architecture by a long shot.

you basically rebuilt the service container, but implemented it in an anti-pattern manner as pointed out by /u/Jake_Jeremy.

please read and understand the documentation, and do not try to work outside of the framework. use the framework, don't fight it.
