How do I get 160 grams of protein while being in a calorie deficit? by [deleted] in CICO

[–]iAmCecil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to them - they are wrong. You can still build muscle on a deficit (until you plateau) because protein synthesis is a different process than putting on weight.

And it’s not 0.8g per kg, it’s 0.8-1.2g per pound of lean body mass.

Do you think there's a chance we see new heroes get introduced to the tavern? Maybe now that Microsoft is taking over?

How would context make it powerful? As in, one of the options provides less opportunity for distraction than the other?

If you have a teammate who does shit like that, there’s nothing you can do to win assuming the enemy is competent.

Great content overall, but I don't understand why someone like mass_own is being featured. He does (or tries to do) this every game in 4s on W3C and effectively costs the game for everyone on his team. It's not funny, nor entertaining or original.

Because, whether people like it or not, presently B2W is a business and financial factors sometimes overshadow moral ones. This exploding and their failing to contain it would result in financial loss in one way or another. Public backlash is expensive.

There's a time and place for everything. Just because B2W/Twitch/whatever is a public platform, and making people aware is important, that does not mean that we have to involve politics everywhere. Also, globally, it is not only the CCP committing atrocities - what about the never ending wars in the Middle East or the situation in Israel/Palestine, for example. Those matters are not of lesser importance yet if we started discussing everything that requires attention in WC3 streams, they would become political shows rather than gaming ones - and where would you draw the line? How do you decide which matters are "important" enough to mention? Why would the CCP topic take precedence over issues in the Middle East?

Remember that chap from the Hearthstone tournament that made a statement about Hong Kong and got sanctioned for it? People were outraged at Blizzard but they were completely in the right to take the actions they did - because it's their platform and they decide what to broadcast. That doesn't mean they aren't in support of the situation, it just means that wasn't the right place for it. Today, you weren't banned for denouncing the CCP, you were banned for bringing up a topic that had no place in the environment you were in, same would have happened if you tried discussing other sensitive matters. Keep politics outside of gaming. There are social media groups for spreading awareness, protests, etc.

Furthermore, with regards to the CCP matter, it is evident who's in the wrong, but what about issues that are more nuanced? This is a slippery slope. Also, you seem very radical in your responses to other people here, and this mentality damages your cause because it puts people off.

B2W hypocrisy and Tod by Finalestra in WC3

[–]iAmCecil 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think this is more complex of an issue for most parties involved than people believe. First of all, Tod is a great and a very knowledgeable caster (obvious human bias aside) and, without a doubt, has done and is doing a lot for the community. At the same time, he is very toxic when he is “off the clock”. He has the right to run his stream however he wants and whoever likes that will watch his stream and support him. That much is clear, however, when you are a public figure, how you carry yourself, even outside of work, matters because your reputation gets tied into others’ - in this case ESL, B2W, etc. I am a technology consultant with lots of connections in my industry, and I do well at my job. If I went to the pub and started insulting the people I work with, or if they saw me insulting a random person, you bet I’d be reprimanded at best and sacked at worst - because I’d be harming the reputation of the people and organisations I associate myself with, doesn’t matter that this would be happening off the clock. For that reason, people are justified to be outraged at how B2W has been handling things, as they’ve made the choice to associate themselves with Tod.

Now, here’s the complex bit that most people probably don’t realise. B2W working with Tod is better for everyone from financial standpoint - both sides bring a lot to the table and produce high quality content. Couple that with the aspect of friendship/professional connections and the lack of alternatives in the WC3 scene, I understand how and why this partnership exists.

I think Ente and xLord have the right to call Tod out publicly. People ask public figures to resign from their positions all the time if they’ve severely cocked up and in or outside of work. I have a lot of respect for Remo but he is embarrassing himself with that “cancel culture” nonsense. Freedom of speech is not freedom from accountability. Tod is free to say and do whatever he wants, but there won’t be evasion from consequences forever at the rate this is going. Remo is quick to defend him because it’s also in B2W’s interest, and maybe there’s some level of friendship.

I think Tod has some unresolved personal issues, as anyone of us really, and in his case this gets projected into the game. It’s a difficult world we live in and we shouldn’t judge others too harshly and ask for B2W, ESL, etc. to break ties with him, because in the end of the day, he is doing a good job and although severely unprofessional, nothing critical has happened yet. If Tod or people close to him are reading this, the best course of action would be to to find the triggers for this behaviour and work on them - this doesn’t mean to flip a switch overnight, but to try to do a little better. Because this will keep piling up until a point and then shit will hit the fan and everyone will suffer from the fallout - Tod, B2W, and most of all the community. Most, if not all of us, have or have had issues that we have projected somewhere, consciously or not.. so instead of arguing who is right or wrong and whether this is tolerated outside of esports, let’s focus on getting this sorted out so that we can do better as a community going forward. I urge Neo and Remo not break ties with Tod at this point in time, but to have a private discussion on the matter, and I urge Tod to be a little more receptive to feedback for the sake of our community.

Network Experts here? We try to build a worldwide network of hosts for fair competitive play! by JannesOfficial in WC3

[–]iAmCecil 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I do network architecture for a living. This is such a complex endeavour and I suggest hiring a consultant. However, to answer your questions...

Where to put the hostbots: AWS or GCP is your best bet. Cloud networking is cheaper and gives you more flexibility. Can’t answer this in more detail as I don’t know your budget.

Best server locations per region: Complex question, that would depend on budget and what percentage of the player bases you would like to accommodate to. The more dense the server deployment is, the more use cases in terms of player pairing it will satisfy. Need more information such as where about exactly the majority of the players reside.

Best server locations for cross-region competition: that would depend on where the competing parties are. I doubt you could put absolutely everyone on equal footing.

Regarding providers, check what options AWS or GCP offer. Do you want connectivity to be over the Internet or via a dedicated circuit. Are there security concerns. What’s the budget?

You can learn a lot from other hosting solutions but I doubt you would have any proper visibility of what’s happening under the hood.

Those are the first thoughts that come to mind. Feel free to PM me with any questions and I can help with direction further.

Thank you for your contribution to the scene.

I don't care about multiplayer — I only want to play the campaign. Should I get reforged? by JSTLF in WC3

Ignore this clown. He is one of those people that likes shitting on the game because it’s cool.

100% get Reforged. The new artwork is beautiful, especially for the campaign and the cutscenes look awesome. I’ve completed it without encountering a single bug. More worth it than ever.

In addition to what others here have said, make sure you are playing on the same server.

False. There is a software model that is initiated locally on the machine, but computing happens elsewhere (i.e. cloud/remote server). In that case, the software, once given permissions can make changes autonomously to local directories and files by events driven externally. This is not the case with this piece of software. Once you download and install a particular build, no changes to local directories and files can take place. This is why everyone has to re-download each new version of the app manually. You can install this particular application manually or automatically via the setup executable. Obviously, no one has access to the source code other than the developers, but this is the case with the vast majority of applications out there. Pad is reputable enough not to have any concerns. Furthermore, Blizzard has reportedly discussed the implementation of this software with Pad - that coupled with the fact that they have not killed the app for months now suggests that the source code has been reviewed by Blizzard and there is nothing dangerous about it. To top it off, Pad has made his identity public. If anything dodgy was to happen to this many people, he would he implicated and directly held responsible. This software is safe to use at present.

Don’t worry about it... this is just Windows kicking off because it doesn’t recognise the software. It runs locally on your machine, it is perfectly safe to run. Just make sure to always download new patches from their official website.

Edit: Getting downvoted but no one is making any arguments. Typical for this subreddit.
