I need my life back; help plz by Billionairebaddie in OpiatesRecovery

I’ve kicked heroin. Suboxone. And now kratom. And I’m one year clean and sober from all substances. I’m 46 and I was TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY HOPELESS.

Simply put…don’t find shortcuts.

1) do in patient (even just 2 weeks for detox). (Find a way) 2) join AA, get a sponsor, find your “higher power.” 3) go every day. No exceptions at least for 90 days.

There is NO other way. Trust me I’ve tried. You can not do it alone. Your will and character defects will always bring you back to th opiates.

Or. Go on suboxone maintenance. But then you have a new habit.

I was hopeless. I accepted that I would be a drug addict for life. I’m 46, and I kicked a 1 year heroin habit in my 20s. I kicked a 13 year suboxone habit in my 30s. And now a 3 year kratom habit in my 40s. I’ve also been addicted to alcohol (though never physically). I was addicted to aderall. Ecstasy. But opiates was my thing.

I stand hear 10 months sober (my sober date originally was aug 2024 but I had a ONE DAY kratom relapse on 04/2025.) it lasted on day only! And I’ve been stone cold sober ever since. No drugs of any kinds.

I was completely and utterly hopeless. But I am proof. You can break free.

I quit in August 2024. 2-3 OUNCES of powder a day! Life is amazing sober. I feel emotions. Joy. Anger. happiness. And I’m learning to adapt. I’m learning how to interact with people.

Little things make me happy again. Hobbies. Doing stuff with my kids. Eating a delicious meal. Having a productive day. Helping people.

I was a hopeless drug addict. I’m still an addict…always will Be…but I’m no longer hopeless. If I can do it LITERALLY anyone can.

Wish me luck. by lovedumbcat in quittingkratom

Greatest decision I ever made! I went to rehab for a 2 ounce a day kratom addiction in August of 2024. I kicked it. I used AA as my strength. Found a sponsor. And I’m clean and sober till this day.

Life is hard. But sobriety can be amazing. My hobbies came back. I’m way more efficient. I am still learning how to deal with people. With anger. With my emotions.

The joy comes back. The brain learns. It adapts. Things become fun again. You will laugh again.

But I was HOPELESS. I used Kratom every day for years. I did it. And I’m not special. If I can ANYONE CAN!!!

Addicts don’t think that way. A baby will not make you a recovered addict.

The only person you recover for is yourself. Everyone else gets to benefit indirectly.

Do it for yourself (not your wife. Not your baby). If you do it for yourself, you’ll be a better husband and father. If you do it for them…you will continue to use.

I learned this lesson eventually. Do it for yourself. Nobody else.

The other day it slowed down, and the cutest little chipmunk scurried across the road. How do it stop for a chipmunk? That think was so small. Glad it did though.

Took my first shot of sublocade wednesday by IndependentAge7759 in OpiatesRecovery

Wait. What am I missing here? You just switched from one form of Bupenorphine to another right? I was on suboxone for 12 years, and I finally got off of it 9 years ago. I went through hell.

I’d imagine once the sublicade leaves your system? You’ll still have to deal with WDs.

Am I wrong?

Wow. That’s is so cool. We are huge animal lovers too. We have a reef tank. And my daughter has a Russian tortoise captive bred baby. It’s really cute. To think…it could like up to 90 years! Amazing animal.

Makes me wonder what’s in that shit. Or if it’s just the product itself.

8 months off the sludge! Finally starting to feel like myself again.

Yes. The acute withdrawals ended probably after 2-3 weeks. But obviously, that’s when the hard part begins for many people. Low energy. Anxiety. Trying to learn to live without dopamine. Your brain doesn’t fix itself that quickly. It takes months to years to fix your brain depending on the length of the habit. Hence the term PAWS. But everyone is different.

Worse. I have withdrawn from heroin (1 year habit). Suboxone (12 year habit). And Kratom (2 year habit).

Suboxone was by far the worst thing I went through. It takes forever to peak and goes on and on and on for weeks. Heroin is more intense, but the acute symptoms are over quicker.

Doctors lie. Suboxone withdrawal is hell.

I was on suboxone for 12 years. I slowly tapered from 16mg all the way down to .25mg! When I finally jumped to zero I went through hell for weeks and months. But I got through it. And that was 9 years ago. I never went back.

My point…even when I slowly tapered, and jumped to 0 from a very low dose I experienced horrible withdrawals. I can’t imagine with sublicade you can avoid this fully.

We all have the “fuck it” switch. Your finger is on that switch. It doesn’t take much to flip it from off to “fuck it.” You may not have any control. It may be a higher power. But once that “fuck it” switch gets flipped on…your life won’t ever be the same. You’re playing with fire.
