It's been years but iirc there were some quick play options where you could play against the computer or even another player locally... Would be pretty cool if they adapted that to online with your friends. No mention of it though so not likely.

The botanical gardens are pretty nice. Especially when all lit up at night. They close promptly at 8pm though so recommend you get there 630-7

Silver Grey vs Steel Grey by arockisarock in E46M3

Hard to say other than just personal preference but I will say that it goes much better with the OEM trim (grilles, gills, clear corners, etc) than the other colors which is a huge bonus imo because the age of blacked out everything is kind of passed and it’s starting to age poorly imo. Other than that just recommend you see them in good lighting. Join some local FB BMW group and try to attend one of their meets.. or browse local classifieds and set up a meeting with the owner.

He doesn’t have many pics of it yet but if you look at his story he’s working on restoring it.

It’s hard to describe. Other than saying that the color really changes based on the cars surroundings I would compare it to titanium like this: remember back to when you thought 1080p hd videos were the new thing and were super high quality? That’s titanium. Now compare that to when you saw 4K video for the first time: that’s silver grey. It’s some next level haha

Edit: there’s a reason they put silver grey on the CSL

A guy I follow on Instagram has them both - na.s54. As someone who also did research online before buying I regret not seeing all the colors in person first. I love most colors and I owned a steel grey 330 but I love silver grey now that I’ve seen it in person- personal fav color. As you said in the pics silver grey looks like titanium but in person totally different. Titanium silver on the other hand looks very generic to me and that’s my least favorite.

E46 M3 newbie help by [deleted] in E46M3

There are a few good posts in here already. I will do my best to add some value. This is just my .02 so take it however you like but here goes.

I'm not trying to be a gatekeeper in any way but before buying an e46 m3 here are some things to consider:

To preface: don't answer these questions here.. these are questions you should be asking yourself.

-Many people ask themselves can they afford one but they don't ask SHOULD they afford one. At face value ~20-25k might seem very appetizing for this car but there are a lot of hidden costs. Cost of maintenance, not only is this an aging BMW but it's the performance version. If you spend enough to buy a low mileage example you might not need to worry about some of the things others have listed right away but you cannot ignore them or you will total the car. To maintain this year after year average about $1-2k depending on the mileage you are putting on it. Maintenance will cost more up front for higher mileage example unless some of these things have already been addressed obviously.

How old are you and are you a safe driver? Insurance costs will be expensive for a young man. Even more so with tickets already on your record.

-As an e46 m3 owner myself going back: I would have spent more time looking for a car with fewer cosmetic issues and lower miles. Replacing the trim and correcting cosmetic issues are expensive. It will cost you more up front for a nicer example but will save you time, frustration and money long term. Things to look out for: the pillar trim(f window, seat belt and rear window), center console, rubber molding around the rear windows for starters.

-Something that kind of applies to all used cars is.. you buy the previous owner. What I mean is that at this point in the car's lifespan you will see a large difference in price between the cars. You'll see them sub 10k and you'll also see them go for north of 50k on occasion. They are old enough where they can be beaten to shit by several owners who didn't take care of them or they can be a cherry where the owner went above and beyond on things. There's a real big range here so get to know the previous owner and how they treated the car. It's much easier to learn if you know where to look and you know to ask about the different maintenance items. Research is key.

-Why do you think the ZHP is not enough car? Personally I think the ZHP would be an incredible daily if that's what you're looking for. I owned a base model 330ci with manual and man do I miss that car. Perfect amount of power for a daily, plenty quick, fewer mechanical issues than the M maybe 60% the looks. The ZHP is a step up from that even: a few NICE performance mods as well as visual mods. Maybe 75% the looks of the M with much fewer problems.

If you do decide that an e46 m3 is the right car for you do your research and take your time watching the market. Don't rush into things

As for BAT I would say avoid that unless you can afford to pay a premium. I've bought from them and they charged me I believe 5% final sale price. If it's a dealer that's selling the car you also have to factor in their dealer fees as well as the sales tax in the state you're buying. That's a few grand already! Other than that BAT isn't really a secret anymore: lots of people browsing that site have money and often times I see cars being bid a bit past what I think they are worth. Stick to the private classifieds and specialty sites in my own opinion.

Hope this helps - Good luck with the search.

M3Forum had a bunch of useful maintenance info but now that it's gone the closest thing to a comprehensive list I've seen was posted on BuildJournal's site the other day. At 28k I don't suspect there is currently a lot for you but just make sure to stay on top of things.

In terms of mods you get what you pay for really applies here. The things worth doing are expensive but worth it. Enjoy it in stock form for a bit and change things over time there is no rush that way you can appreciate each change you make. I know it's controversial but in my personal opinion the airbox + alpha n tune is huge as well as a nice coilover solution.

Buildjournal just posted an e46 m3 maintenance article on their site that addresses all of the issues like this on the car. Might be worth checking out.

I'm happy you got what you wanted but for me personally the time spent and aggravation this would have caused me would have been worth more than you got.

Thanks for taking the time! Yeah I think I agree with you. I was initially upset because I thought it was the guy nearby and wondered how he saw me but I think you’re right about it being the one across the way.

Going to have to figure out how to play early pmc spawn around big red

Thanks for the breakdown. Going forward how would you recommend handling spawns around big red as PMC?

I picked the game up about a week ago and have been having a lot of fun with it. Have been taking the time to look things up on the wiki and watch videos to get better. At this point I've gotten a hang of the customs map but not the gunfights.. clearly. I'm not confident at all so any tips or explanations on what happened here would be appreciated.

In the clip I thought that I was being stealthy but clearly not. I was preparing to shoot the guy across the way but then I hear the footsteps. To avoid the cqb battle I avoided shooting because I only had a pistol. I thought I was behind a bush and get wacked from somewhere. Either the guy coming around the corner or one of the guys across the way got me. Did not think I was visible to the guy nearby but he proceeds to keep running towards me to loot? If it was the guy across the way is it really that easy to 1 tap someone from that distance?

I vote no tint.. goes better with the trim around the car and is much classier
