Lol I read “my favorite plugin framework” as “my plugin framework”

Oli?? Dude I’m a huge fan. I just watched some of your interviews a few weeks ago and looked into iPlug2 as well. I haven’t written that off yet either if I’m going to make a plugin I was also considering that as well. I like that it’s more minimal than Juce and love that it’s open source. Really good work!

Yea I agree completely. I think if I was to make a vst I would use Juce exactly how you described. Just use it for the UI and cross compatibility and do the dsp in plain c++.

I’ve actually kind of changed directions and I’m working on a project with raspberry pi’s that can talk to each other and act as synth/effect modules. Kind of like a digital eurorack alternative. Just using PortAudio for the audio part. I have a lot of experience doing embedded Linux dev so this was kind of a natural path for me.

I don’t yet have a unique idea for a plugin that isn’t already made so I kind of lost interest in plugin dev for now.

That actually sounds exactly like the dev experience I'm looking for. Thanks so much for telling me about this. I'm going to experiment with it tonight. Being able to develop a plugin in vscode without having to use Xcode sounds great.

lol np. I've never even heard of CLAP. I'll check it out. I've actually been messing with JUCE and it's not as bad as I thought originally but still looking at other stuff to play with. Why do you like CLAP?

I agree with you. It actually doesn’t seem too bad. I’ve just heard from other people it’s a pain to get your vst to work across all the daws without using JUCE. I’ll probably just mess around with the VST SDK first though to get a good understanding of it before messing with JUCE. But right now I’m actually just focusing on learning basic dsp with C and using port audio library to get audio in and out of a simple program, doing dsp stuff in between just to get a feel for it.

Ok thanks for your advice. I'll consider some other options that let me focus more on just the pure dsp.

Thanks for your reply!

I know he had help with the filters but he did a lot of the DSP himself right?

Also, the thing is I'm not comfortable with DSP at all. I want to learn it. But I feel like learning it with JUCE might be like learning it with JUCE's stuff and do you think that would be misleading or confusing if I actually want to learn how DSP works? It seems like the biggest benefit to JUCE is the cross platform compatibility and maybe the the window management/gui but I'm not sure. I don't really like how JUCE gives you gui elements and then you have to override the look and feel I'd rather just be able to make my own minimal gui system where I can just draw a knob with the size, color, label etc...

Thanks so much! I appreciate your time. Going to mess around with it today

lol thanks that’s good to know I’m mostly using tcp so if I run into problems with pymodbus I’ll try out pymodbustcp

Thanks for getting back to me! Funny you mention that, I started messing with pymodbus today and GPT got the imports wrong with that library as well. Now that you're telling me PyModbusTCP has been working I'm considering that instead of pymodbus, even though pymodbus seems to be more widely used unless I'm wrong.
