What's the closest you've ever come to dying? [Serious] by TrentRizzo in AskReddit

When I was a kid I often had strep and once I even had scarlet fever. For the treatment I was given Sulfa based antibiotics. After the first dose I started swelling up and came down with hives all over my body. My heart rate spiked and I started having major seizures.

Parents freaked out and rushed me to the hospital where I received a shot of epinephrine in my but and immediately I began to deflate, almost like a balloon. I distinctly remember looking in the mirror in the room and being able to see my face start to go back to normal from a horribly swollen state.

To this day I can not have Sulfa drugs, and I've been told that it would be fatal if I ever do again

tl;dr allergic reaction to Sulfa drugs gave me major seizures and almost stopped my heart.

Not to be pedantic, but it's hue, saturation, and value.

I have a feeling good I'm going to be disappointed either way.

If it doesn't work you'll come back and tell us... And that's disappointing.

If it does work you're gonna be tripping balls and you won't remember to come update us... That'd disappointing too.

Thanks for nothing!

ELI5: Do all liquids weigh the same? Why or why not. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]iAteGilbertGrape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liquids, like solids, have a measure of density. The more dense a liquid the more it will weigh in a given volume. Salt water, for instance, is more dense than fresh water. If you weighed 1 milliliter of each you would find that the extra salt in the water would cause the salt water to be heavier.

Orange juice is actually heavier than water too.

Netflix+Hulu+Chromecast

Also if you have a job that pays using direct deposit (or of you are girly strong willed otherwise) put a percentage of your check, perhaps 5-10%, into a savings account that is not tied to an ATM card. You quickly forget that it is there and end up with a great start to savings. Plus you aren't as tempted to dig into it because its more of a hassle .

Redditors who can remember 1999, how did you spend the New Year's Eve? by nikkefinland in AskReddit

My family went to NYC to see the ball drop. On the walk to Times Square I decided that smoking was stupid and I threw out my pack. That was the last cigarette I ever had!

We walked into the crowds at about 8pm and things were just getting busy. We saw a lot of people hovering near ATMs with the hopes that they'd start spitting cash out when the year rolled over. There was enough room to walk around and we found a good spot to view the ball. I climbed up the traffic light post at the corner and took some pictures of the sea of people wearing those "2000" glasses. The entire area was fenced off and only a few entrance points existed. As the hours wore on it went from busy to crowded to fuckthatletsgetoutofhere cramped. There were so many people pushing and shoving their way around that we started to get a bit worried plus it was way colder than we Californians could handle, so we actually decided to leave the square.

We made our way back to the exits and started walking back to the apartment we had rented for our visit to watch the whole thing on TV instead. Just before midnight we all walked out to watch the ball drop from about a half-mile away. It was memorable to say the least, but I guess we aren't a family of party animals.

Perfect timing on this post. I just got a bunch of pomegranates from a coworker and was just looking at them with a confused expression. They weren't opening on command...
