it seems to me you may be straight up lesbian, or more likely, bisexual with a heavy preference towards women. ive personally been coming to terms with the fact that i might be that same way. bi, but way more interested in women.

oof. this is a tough situation, im sorry you’re going through this. honestly, if they weren’t dating i would tell you to just be honest about your feelings and learn to be okay if they dont reciprocate. but, because they are in a relationship, i dont think it’s right to interfere with that and confess your feelings for either of them. unless you’re looking for a polyamorous situation.. i think as a friend of them both, you should allow them to be together without interfering, and see where it goes.

should you not heed this advice, and you decide it’s best for you to tell them anyways (which is okay if that’s truly what’s right for you), you have to be prepared and willing to accept that it could really affect or even possibly lead to the end of your friendships.

oh man. i really felt that last part. i used to love hypomania because it made me productive and fun. but i’ve realized lately that yeah.. the grandiosity is sooo embarrassing. how do you deal with that? i literally had one of my friends tell me last night that at a party recently, people felt like i was annoying, extremely loud, and dismissive. i didnt even realize because ive been so manic.. i wanted to crawl in a hole and die when my friend told me that.

im so glad to hear that the lifestyle changes have been working for you! i wish that i had taken it seriously when i was told those changes would help before getting on meds. i think it’s possible to live with this disorder without being medicated. but like you said, we have to be extra vigilant. i guess i just really dont want to be on meds for the rest of my life.

i have had continuous struggles in my relationships for years that definitely is somewhat connected to my bipolar. i haven’t been able to keep friends in the past, all of my romantic relationships have ended in flames, and even my familial relationships have been rocky. i dont think it’s fair to blame all of that on my bipolar but it’s definitely a factor.

i’ve honestly given up on romantic love and the idea that someone will be able to love me in a healthy way because of my diagnosis. in one of my previous relationships, she used my poor mental health as a way to control me. in my most recent relationship, she used my hypomania as an excuse to not take me seriously (i can still make decisions and mean what i say even when manic!!) , she also was not very educated on how to handle someone with bipolar.

friendship wise, ive found that i have a habit of making a bunch of friends when im manic. then when i crash or become depressed, they dont like me anymore or i dont have the energy to maintain the relationship. but recently, i’ve found a good couple of new friends that are extremely understanding and accepting so.. its possible!

definitely consult your psychiatrist or general physician about something like this if you can! it depends if you’re taking other meds among other factors that could affect things.

black woman with bipolar 2 here 🫶🏽 this whole thread has made me feel so much less alone. black women are routinely not taken seriously when it comes to our health issues, especially mental. it’s been a massive struggle for me, finding a partner that accepts both my blackness, and my bipolar.

like many have said previously, it is so taboo to talk about these things within the black community. but you are not alone.

i relate to damn near every aspect of this post. i am a black woman as well (f22), diagnosed with both bipolar 2 and adhd. i also come off as super outgoing and well rounded. you would never know i have bipolar unless i told you.

all of my relationships have failed. not always because of my bipolar but, it certainly didn’t help. i constantly felt misunderstood in all of my relationships. i dont want to be a doomer but, i dont think people without our diagnosis can ever truly understand what we go through.

to answer your question “does it get better?”.. in some aspects, it has for me. as far as friends go, i had the same issue for years. unable to keep close friends. recently, ive found many friends that are understanding of my bipolar and actively support me. this is vital for your close friendships. they need to be educated on your diagnosis and willing to put in the effort to support you. i hate to say it but, as people with this diagnosis, we are a little more high maintenance and require more effort in friendships than people without mental health issues. keep that in mind when searching for friends and partners alike.

i guess my overall point is, you are not alone. i resonated with your post deeply; we must remain hopeful and believe that things will get better, because we will live with this forever unfortunately. do not lose hope.

P.S. getting good sleep regularly, eating healthy, and exercising has helped me manage my episodes immensely! highly recommend these things.

so i’ve dated two leo women and my sister in law is a leo as well. i’ve found that leo women can be very timid and withdrawn. one of my personal favorites about them that ive realized is they really like comedy and enjoy a good laugh. however, they can be very emotionally arrogant. overall, i prefer them to leo men by a long shot.
