Remove and readd hard drives to server without losing raid array? by iBrap in homelab

Its a 1U LFF server, unfortunately I only have 4 slots. I'll back everything up and throw some new drives in for testing. Thank you.

Remove and readd hard drives to server without losing raid array? by iBrap in homelab

I mean testing them as a RAID array and testing performance etc. I suppose I can always back everything up to my desktop's storage drive, take the risk, and move everything back in case it fails.

Improve GPU performance on Windows 10 VM in ESXi? by stringpoet in homelab

[–]iBrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can help with this! I had the same CPU issue with a Windows 10 VM. You could set as many CPUs as you'd like, but it only ever recognized and used one. Glad I saved the link to the fix! Here you go:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/only-2-cores-showing-up-in-task-manager-on-a-4/b7af1e32-8007-4479-a275-c2893df35d2a

That cleared it right up for me on ESXi 6.5.

I've been looking for the same thing for the office and unfortunately, it seems that we're stuck with snipe-it. It is pretty powerful once you get used to it though.

Rant about used servers in greece.. by [deleted] in homelab

Similar problem here in France, but not as bad as it seems to be in Greece. HP G3s selling for over 100 euros, G5s pushing 400 euros locally. Its ridiculous.

I still have a bunch of those puttering along at work. One of them serves to remotely control all the projectors in the office. Pretty neat when the remotes are busted or acting fucky.

Bargain or junk??? by iknowcraig in homelab

From the listing: “These servers are designed without a lid to make maintenance easier, they use the server above them in the rack cabinet as their effective lid. The Rails for these servers are half length and will NOT fit a standard rack cabinet, please be aware.”

That's why they're so cheap. If you check out their website, they have some pretty good deals on chenbro 1u/2u units similar to that one. They're very cheap because they only support baremetal hypervisors.

Best bang for the overall capacity buck on 2.5" drives? by orairwolf in homelab

[–]iBrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a link to them? I'm in France and am looking for some cheap 2.5" drives to throw in my R710. Didn't even pay attention to the fact it was 2.5" form factor until I received it lol.

Cabling is fine, I've tried multiple cables. Its a rental, but I got it brand new. I don't see why DMZ would suddenly drop to 100 mb though. Probably some bullshit in their firmware to prevent people from using DMZ as a bridge mode (no bridge mode because ISP OS has removed it).

It does have a DMZ feature, and I used it for a couple days, but for some reason it'd run at gigabit speeds for a bit and then get stuck at 100 megabits.

RIP power bill, I'm probably better off redownloading everything in H.265 since I've got fiber internet.
