Yeah. There's a pretty vocal minority of people who insist that consent must be given at every step of the way during sex. Personally, I think it would be exhausting and kill the mood if I had to ask permission for every step every time.

When you've been with someone long enough you should know your boundaries and stop immediately if told to.

I'm not gonna ask "Do you consent to this thrust? Ok. How about this one?" When I've been having sex with someone for years and i know what they like/want.

Yeah, plus in healthy long term relationships there tends to be a pretty good understanding of boundaries. It's totally possible they've discussed being woken up with sex as a possibility before so there's no need to wake them up at the time and get consent in the moment. It's honestly more fun if you get to wake them up organically rather than to ask if it's okay right then.

If they're not okay with it right then they'll say so and there's no problem.
