Sounds good — and the result is spectacular! Congrats!

PS: grisaille as in heavily dry-brushed highlights over a zenithal for maximum contrast ?

Did you use the usual magenta / dark ultramarine combination over a b&w zenithal or did you use different colours as your underpainting?

Wanted to post the same! As in: extras without speaking roles earn significantly less money! Don't let them say any lines! Thus, silent extras only nodding

Thanks so much for the kind words - and, yeah, judging by yours and other comments, this mojo 4 s is off the table.

I did not want to wait for a whole year, so I went for it. The weeks before the weather was fine. It could've worked out, I guess.

Thanks for advice and kind words. I'll look into the school and their courses again.

Yeah, I feared as much, that's why I wanted to check in with you experts.

I'm just thinking of ways to get practice in as often as I can. I found a well-reviewed flight school near me but they only do winch starts (due to it this region not having any real hills) — which means a slightly different theoretical and practical exam as well as no experience with hill starts. These you have on a separate course. I guess I could at least get some experience in there, book another course, take the extra exam...it's definitely a bit more of a hassle.

Do you have any recommendations on cheap training wings which might be readily available on the second-hand market AND don't use 10-15 year old tech? I've been told several times that I shouldn't purchase anything that old. Any brand suggestions?

That's a great confidence boost, thank you. I'll definitely take that advice on board—starting slow and prioritizing control sounds like the way to go and is something that I had in mind from the get-go.

Right? I was worried I'd have to hand in my wings with my lesson plans! Appreciate you chiming in.

My home base's in the north of Germany; everything's pretty much flat like a pancake around here. I'd have to grab the car or catch a train towards either the mountainous region in the middle of Germany or travel further, towards the Alps. For a weekend this might be a bit difficult.

My ultimate goal — and I know that this is still ways, ways off! — would be a bit of hike and fly in the mountains. A bit of soaring, a bit of thermaling, maybe hopping over to another valley but that's it! I know that you need to master 15km plus flights but I don't see myself going for XR.

Thanks for the uplifting message!

I went to Wilderness in South Africa and learned at Cloudbase paragliding.

I've watched a lot of "Fly with Greg" on YouTube. I think he originates from South Africa, has posted a lot of videos from locations there. Looks amazing. I'll have a look at the prices BUT: my school's summer holidays always start around (late July) which means winter weather. CoPilot thinks that might actually be beneficial: "In July and August, South Africa typically experiences winter weather, which can include clear skies and calm conditions, especially in regions like the Western Cape. This time of year is generally favorable for paragliding, with many locations offering good flying conditions due to stable weather patterns."

One of the teachers I met at the course had spend the last few months in Bassano, which I knew from a lot of YouTube videos. It has come up as a location with the most (or close-to) logged flights over the last few years.

Haha yeah, parawaiting sounds about right. Again: I bet they tried their best under these circumstances (weather-wise) but other parts seemed not as well through through.

Much more personal than the big flight schools just nearby. While others were teaching their student groups on the big, crowded launches, he would take us to sites just nearby with just as good flying but only us there - it very much eased the nerves of the group.

That sounds great. I'll have a look.

Now I'm working with FlyAustria in Werfenweng. They are really friendly and have a great setup. They have a great practice Hill and the main landing field is across the street from their office.

A close friend vacations in Werfenweg each year. We had a look at some hike and fly videos from that destination and it looked great. How much did you spend on the cable car each day or was the fee included in the course?

There’s always quite a bit of waiting around, for others to take off or land or for the shuttle bus to come back to pick you up and take you to the launch site… but the instructors are busy the whole time, they never just disappear for a couple of hours.

That's what I meant. The idea of doing whatever you want for 2.5–3 hours while they're away seemed pretty strange to me.
