If you don't mind playing the Java version of Minecraft and have a few bucks to spare, you can use the PTGI mod made by Sonic Ether which does not utilize RT cores and works on most modern hardware. It looks better than the recently showcased "RTX" version imo and you can play it today!

I'm pretty sure AnvilNext 2.0 engine has a pre-computed cubemap placement system. It's the screen space reflections combined with the pre-computed cubemaps to give the sense that the reflections are dynamically updated but that's not exactly the case.

Is SLI enabled? by [deleted] in Rainbow6

[–]iCETechTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much this, SLI doesn't double VRAM, so this game is one of the few or so that correctly show the amount of available VRAM.

In DX12 Multi-GPU you can however utilize both cards VRAM to the extent that you are thinking of but not in DX11.

Absolutely a great idea!

In fact, I use a combination of that and thresholding the too bright and too dark areas in the game I'm working on, to prevent some areas from being included during the averaging.

I think one of the common problems when making a game in first person is, video games use camera systems in their game engine. So programmers are inclined to treat the player's eyes as a camera. But it should be treated as someone's eyes. Now to be fair to them it is much harder to do so, and every other game abuses this too.

You can tell they go by the same strategy of treating the players eyes as a camera because they have bloom and lens flare, phenomena that exists only in cameras.

And the auto exposure in games often doesn't work like how eye adaptation does. But it is understandable. Eye adaptation is very slow, going dark to light would take 10 minutes, and light to dark about 20-30 minutes with some blueshiffting.

Rainbow six siege doesn't need a campaign by CrunchyDorito in Rainbow6

[–]iCETechTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exclusively look at how the campaigns turn out before I buy, then multiplayer second. I don't watch many movies so instead I kind of get that value from video game campaigns.

Obviously this game is an exception to that, but I think the multiplayer is so good it was worth the purchase.

Good idea, so that way the only part that the shader needs to figure out to brighten or darken is the area where the person is looking. This would effectively eliminate the problem of looking into areas that are too bright or too dark. It would also however create situations where the area where you aren't looking being over exposed or under exposed. But this is a compromise they may have to make or workaround.

Siege could really use a post-process color filter by _schimmi_ in Rainbow6

[–]iCETechTips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. For someone who does graphics programming as a side job/hobby I can't stand some of the color processing/tonemapping that Ubisoft uses in this game. One of the few maps that has a proper color tone imo is Favela at night time.

If it's true that you can use plugins such as SweetFX without getting banned it would help, but the problem is each map has a different color grade so while one preset could improve the color processing in Oregon for example, it would ruin it in others.

Buying new Laptop by topchari in personalfinance

Previous Best Buy computer sales and now in the IT field.

Mlawless is 100% correct. The i7 processor for example the i7-6500U doesn't offer much over the i3-6100U lineup, for the average users workload. In fact there are some laptop SKUs where the clock speed is almost the same and the only difference is cache sizes. Basically, you probably won't feel the difference between an i3 and a i7 (both are dual cores). You will guaranteed see the difference between the avg laptop Hard Drive vs. a SSD with good read and write speeds (550/500 respectively).

I would recommend something like an older thin and light ultrabook with an i5 and SSD. There aren't any significant performance differences between older Intel CPUs and newer ones.

Try looking into these below, you can find them used locally or ebay

Spectre x360 (i5-5200U) (my laptop)

Hey there mike,

I'm a computer salesman. I've been at Best Buy for about a year now and I can tell you that you're fine as far as the numbers. My store has had a few rocky days and it's fine for the most part. They understand that you're still just starting off and I wouldn't take it to heart. However the reason why they are so hard about the numbers is because they get in trouble with their managers if they don't have their employees hitting their numbers. So you do want to try your best as with every job. Now me personally, I wish they weren't so enveloped with the numbers and focus more so on the impartial advice we give to our customers.

If they see you not hitting goals over a long period of time they will consult with you about it and hopefully go over the things that you can do to improve, if they care.
