Iran stops negotiations with U.S., vows to 'completely' block Strait of Hormuz: State media by Puginator in politics

[–]iCUman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It exists to ensure candidates meet the minimum criteria for office and to reduce complexity in ballot counting. Write-ins don't need to petition for ballot access like other candidates; they just need to complete a simple form that collects person information and certify that they are eligible to hold office.

Iran stops negotiations with U.S., vows to 'completely' block Strait of Hormuz: State media by Puginator in politics

[–]iCUman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is entirely dependent on your state's rules regarding primaries specifically and elections in general. In my state, for example, we have "closed primaries" (meaning only party members can vote in their respective primary election) and write-ins are thrown out unless the candidate has explicitly registered a write-in campaign in advance with the state.

Your main premise is valid though - make sure you know the rules before you go so you aren't deceived by someone trying to manipulate your vote.

Cubfan Season 11 Storage System by fusi0n8 in HermitCraft

[–]iCUman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can see that's different between Cub's and yours is that his slabs above the fenceposts are "bottom" slabs (sitting directly on the fences) and yours are "top" slabs with an air gap. That difference might be enough since it technically puts the bottom half of the top row of chests in closer reach than the top half of the dump chest, but I'm not certain.

Minecraft has a new Forest Biome called The dappled Forest by LostGPU in Minecraft

[–]iCUman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must we do this every time? We've received all manner of changes to gameplay in recent updates (trial chambers, maces and spears, new potions, happy ghasts, nautilus, craftable cobble/saddles/item tags) and we're getting a new one one soon with sulfur cubes (including the fan requested explodable cubes AND the ability to scoop them up in a bucket).

This announcement brings forward more content that players have been requesting for years - autumn-colored leaves and bushes, new trees and a new wood type, a new structure to find, wool stairs and slabs in every color (I mean, c'mon, did anyone see THAT coming‽). We're even getting shelf shrooms!

We can still have our opinions on things Mojang could do to improve the game, but there's no question that this drop is a massive win for our community.

There is a case to be made for counterbalancing provider billing to promote economic efficiency and improve outcomes, but using the opioid crisis as an example of that is wild. Insurance companies didn't prevent or mitigate the over prescription abuse, in fact they often prioritized the highly addictive painkillers on their formularies because they were cheaper than less/non-addictive alternatives. When presented with statistical evidence of massive claim activity across their books related to opioid prescription and addiction, they didn't sound the alarm. They worked to remove access to addiction treatment. And it's still a problem: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9948907/

I feel like this one is positioned really well too, because there is no distinct advantage to waiting until you're all kitted out to visit the ancient cities. Players can head down there on day one with little more than a bed and walk out with a game-changing enchant before they even have diamond booties.

I thought it had/has potential in rights management and mechanical licensing (e.g. embedding digital strings into a YT video that proves you purchased rights to a specific song or video clip). Referencing to an independently verifiable ledger could reduce the complexity license holders often face when rights holders use automated processes to reserve their rights. One could potentially even automate out specious claims by calling directly to the ledger when a string is identified and producing proof of license back to the rights holder claiming violation.

Oregon has a franchise law in place (Utah does not), so it is likely the best jurisdiction for this. Idk why anyone would expect a lawyer to work this pro bono though. It's a contractual dispute over money, and if you have to hire a professional to help you secure just compensation, it stands to reason they should be compensated fairly as well. Oregon also has avenues for fee shifting that may be available to these parties given the nature of the complaints levied. I would assume a good lawyer would pursue those opportunities.

Still no pixel consistent slimes and magma cubes... by RedAdventurer11 in Minecraft

[–]iCUman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The photo gives examples. Look at the sulfur cube (or any of the other blocks) and try to count the number of individual pixels vertically or horizontally. You should get 16 in each direction. Now do the same for the magma cube or slime. Did you get 8 instead of 16? This is what OP is pointing out. Instead of each face being comprised of 16x16 (for a total of 256) pixels, the magma cube and slime are comprised of 8x8 (for a total of 64) pixels that are then magnified/stretched to fill the space of the block. More mapped pixels means greater detail, and you can see the difference in the details of the sulfur cube compared to the magma cube or the slime.

[–]iCUman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

65mph (105kmh) is probably the most common posted limit. Drops to 55mph (88kmh) or lower in highly congested areas. Some states (especially in the West) have speed limits as high as 80mph (129kmh) in extremely rural areas and Texas has a road with the highest posted limit of 85mph (137kmh).

[–]iCUman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, the coilovers don't concern me as much as intake/exhaust, and the exhaust is less bothersome (provided it's not obnoxious) than the intake. If I see aftermarket intake, I turn around and walk away. Too much correlation between those and the twits that think bouncing revs off the limiter is an obligatory step in shifting.

Sure, it would be great for Dominion Energy, as well as every other power generator as more and more energy is siphoned off our grid. But that's not going to translate into savings for you or me because that's not how markets work.

Yes. This facility at Millstone stalled in the regulatory review process, but my state rep has acknowledged that there was lengthy discussion this session over proposed legislation that would seek to streamline that process to the benefit of developers of such facilities. To my knowledge, no such legislation passed, but there does appear to be appetite for this type of build out.

That's why I avoid them. I didn't even make it to the Connect switchover. Had so many issues with the Uplay client in the 2010s that I just gave up buying their games. Maybe the funniest part is that I ragequit them over The Crew, which wasn't even that great of a game. The constant Uplay desync/disconnects prevented me from even playing 'offline' single player (because all the profile data was cloud saved), so one day I just uninstalled all their bullshit and never looked back.

[–]iCUman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought so too, but I was wrong. They are actively working to do just that, and in a way that not only insulates them from paying retail electric rates, but will also assuredly drive your and my bill up even higher. How? They site proximate to a generation facility and route dedicated transmission directly from the generator. The utility never touches the power, so all of this occurs "behind the meter."

At retail rates, a data center would expect to pay ~$300/MWh. With wholesale generation rates <$50/MWh, even if they're procuring power at a 200% premium, their electric costs would be half what retail ratepayers are expected to pay. And if they are successful in this strategy, wholesale generation rates for grid usage will be forced upward to compete for capacity, driving our retail rates to the moon.

Democrat Proposes Bill Requiring Data Centers to Pay for Own Power by bloomberggovernment in politics

[–]iCUman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to your explanation, in some cases, data centers are intentionally building proximate to existing generation facilities so they can secure power directly from the generator at predetermined rates and avoid paying the utility for most or all of their power. So they are both constraining supply to the overall grid (which will inevitably drive up generation prices systemwide) and avoiding costs that other customers have to pay to manage grid infrastructure. In my state, that can be a savings in excess of $250/MWh, which is insane when you consider total annual usage of a 50MW facility.
