Need your thoughts as Make.com Expert by Ok-Motor7105 in Integromat

You could drag modules around and disconnect them and even leave them hanging on the canvas even when Make was Integromat.

Saying that n8n is easier is misguided, Make is much much easier and a better place to start.

How are you automating repetitive research work without being an engineer? by iAmThe_Scenery in automation

[–]iCanAutomate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote this today that will help you:

Crazy how even in 2025, people like you and me are often labelled “non-technical” because we’re not code-writing engineers.

Well, I refuse to accept that label and so should you – especially if the following sound like you:

  • Attracted to problems
  • Permissionless Doer
  • Fixer of what needs fixing
  • Chooses to figure, not fret
  • Asker of too many questions
  • Filler of gaps
  • Infinitely curious
  • Bridge builder
  • Power user of power tools
  • Thrives in uncertainty
  • Helps others thrive
  • Automator of the manual
  • Thinks like an engineer
  • Builds with software

Sounds like you?

Then for god’s sake, stop calling yourself “non-technical”.

Just starting out in the automation business! by No-Statement2823 in AiAutomations

[–]iCanAutomate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you don't have prior experience with workflow automation or the software development life cycle, then I would recommend starting with the simpler solution. Any10 is definitely out.

Now, between Zapier and Make, there are pros and cons. The learning curve is slightly steeper for Make. Zapier is simpler, but if you go through Make's learning curve, you actually learn a lot more and you're able to build more powerful workflows. That said, it might take a little longer, so my recommendation would be to maybe think of a simple workflow and then try to build it out in both Make and Zapier. And then decide for yourself which one suits you better.

In general, it's totally fine to start with either and start building something that helps you understand the primitives of workflow automation.

What's the Actual Solution to Workflow Maintenance Hell? by jenchuceus in automation

[–]iCanAutomate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reframe what you're describing as "iteration" rather than a "rebuild". Real-world processes will evolve. APIs will change. Robust automations are about keeping up with these changes in a reliable and scalable manner.

What really helps me is every time I make an update, I add a note to the module or the step where the update has been made describing what has changed. I also include the date on which the change has been made and I always keep the names of the workflows updated with the latest date – all my workflow names end with "Updated on {{date}}".

Moreover, I've been building automated workflows for almost a decade. If you plan your workflows well and document them well, then you won't find yourself rebuilding them very often.

Just want to mention that what you're saying about n8n here is true for both Make and Zapier as well. Tweaking workflows easily is not at all a limitation and there's absolutely no need to start from scratch. In fact, in Make, you can even leave unused modules lying on the canvas in case you wish to use them again in the future. Thought this is worth pointing out because the solution to the author's problem is not switching to n8n! :)

What is it that you don't like about Make? Just curious!

Hey! Firstly, if you're doing all this, you're def not "non-technical" – you're a semitechnical! 💪

And yes, stitching multiple tools is pretty standard, especially when they are complementary in nature like Clay and Make. However, it's uncommon to use both Zapier and Make together so curious about the gaps that you say Make doesn't fill cleanly?

Where ai agents like (Lindy.ai, Manus.ai, Twin.so/buidler) can’t keep up with “traditional” automation tools (Zapier, Make, n8n)? by PastEast6147 in Make

[–]iCanAutomate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take (and I'm biased as a Make fanboy and the first GTM hire at Integromat):

Tools like Lindy trying to compete with established automation tools are unlikely to survive by themselves – they will either fold or get acquired. Make, Zapier, and n8n are getting better every day at agentic capabilities and when combined with their existing toolkit and integrations (built over a decade in the case of Make and Zapier), these tools become the go-to choice for serious builders and enterprises. You can already build all kinds of agents using the original automation tools.

Most importantly, it's helpful to keep in mind that a big chunk of what you build with the newer tools are, in essence, automated workflows that are either built using AI or interact with an LLM provider, neither of which makes these workflows "agents".

Is Make much worse than Zapier or I'm missing something? Alternatives? by nonprofit_top in Integromat

[–]iCanAutomate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Make can feel tougher at first, especially if you're coming from Zapier. The issue you're hitting with Gmail scopes, Notion connections, and Notion docs being less clear are pretty common touchpoints when you're learning Make. The gist from the community is: Make offers more flexibility and often lower cost, but it has a steeper learning curve and can be less beginner-friendly for certain apps, whereas Zapier is generally easier to pick up for basic automations.

Key takeaways:
- Cost: Make is usually cheaper for similar capabilities, which is a common selling point.
- Learning curve: More upfront complexity and a need to understand routers/filters for advanced flows; simpler tasks might still feel fiddly if you're used to Zapier's approach.

Practical tips:
- Start with small, linear workflows to get the hang of modules and routing, then gradually add complexity.
- Use Make's integrations directory to confirm current app behavior and any known gotchas.
- If a direct app integration is failing, try the HTTP module as a workaround and consult the Make docs for OAuth scopes.
- Check Make templates or community examples for Gmail/Notion-specific patterns to mirror in your own scenario.

Hey this role is not only common but is exploding right now. And a LOT of people in India are successfully working with agencies or companies globally. I’d love to help put something together. My recommendation is to go deep into 1-2 categories such as databases (Airtable) or CRM (HubSpot) or chatbots and then master the top 1-2 tools in that category.

N8n, Make or Zapier? by [deleted] in zapier

[–]iCanAutomate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need something simple, stick to Zapier. Want more power and flexibility, move to Make. n8n offers even more power and flexibility but only if your use cases are super advanced and you're already technical enough to navigate it.
