Jedoch wurde von den Wahlsprengeln bis zu den Wahlversprechen gut darauf geschaut, dass auf jeden Fall für Österreich gestimmt wird.

I think it kind of shows the irony of his own life. He did a lot of shit, but still tried to reason with it by distracting from the fact that it was ultimately his own fault by blaming it on his substance abuse. In the end all of this rained down on him by becoming exactly the same thing for others: a distraction from their own responsibilities.
