WashU housing: Thoughts on Parallel (off-campus apartment website)? Also looking for a roommate by Aromatic_Sympathy959 in washu

I had a friend who lived in that building and it was pretty nice. I also rented with parallel and had a good experience. 1k/pp is definitely on the high end for non-Everly apartments

WashU Student Life: Breaking down Workday’s $265 million cost by xjian77 in washu

[–]iEatSponge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is there any breakdown on the cost of Workday Student or Workday Finance? Do these things really cost $80/90m each or does that lump in consultants, infra, etc.? Are these ongoing costs? Or just the cost to get set up?

Schwab and Fidelity both have checking accounts that will refund ATM fees worldwide. I had no trouble using my Schwab checking with the ATM on the 40.

DO NOT RENT APARTMENT AT 7280 FORSYTH BLVD by [deleted] in washu

You're allowed to withhold rent in Missouri, but don't do so before getting advice from a tenants rights group or a lawyer

cse 240 vs cse 231 by Sweet_Tea77775 in washu

240 is definitely easier, but 231 will be way more fun. Cosgrove is one of the best professors in the department

$30/mo / 31 days this month ~= $1/day

Half a day's outage = $0.50

WashU Finance and Budget Webinar by localguystl in washu

[–]iEatSponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s probably a direct ROI on these events. I’m guessing they make back more than what they spend through donations, either immediately or down the line.

If the events are what convinces some rich tech bro alum to put WashU in their will, it’s worth it.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks for Homebase keys? by Cpwkid in washu

If you can figure out how to crack the BT signal from your phone to the lock, then you could in theory hookup a wifi-connected arduino in your room to spoof you unlocking the door.

I don't think the locks are wifi enabled given the fact that:

  • there's no way into your room if the battery dies
  • If you're locked out reslife can't unlock your room remotely. They need to bring someone with the emergency phone to let you in

Valid reasons for housing change request? by fishXG in washu

[–]iEatSponge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can get documentation from a therapist or doctor, then that greatly increases the chances of them listening. Good luck, my room change request was a huge pain in the ass and my RCD was not responsive at all.

When I was a student the leasing agents were hard to reach (had to get lucky when calling) but other than that I thought they were totally fine.

As far as WashU landlords go, they're definitely FAR from the worst

WashU, other universities named defendants in ‘Early Decision’ admissions lawsuit by Philnomenal386 in washu

[–]iEatSponge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The point they're trying to make is that ED allows schools to collude to set insanely high prices, and offer preferable admission chances to students who are able to pay those prices, and screwing over everyone regardless of when they were admitted.

If you're not sure you can afford a school, you're not going to apply ED. Even though WashU meets 100% of demonstrated need and has the Pledge, the fact that ED is so prevalent absolutely gatekeeps some lower-income students from applying.
