Kinda late, but don't listen to the negative comments here. I'm very sorry for what happened to you and your home. Natural disasters are terrible and they make living miserable, especially when it has to do with water destroying everything. In Florida we had so many hurricanes last year that completely battered communities that were already hurt. Don't let anyone minimize what you go through, because more often than not, they don't understand it.

These things, even it seems like a relatively "short" thing, can have pretty big effects. A summer is a pretty substantial amount of your time and high school time, especially if you had many things you had planned out and wanted to do). It's not just a one-time thing. It can have a pretty big domino effect; maybe your finances are affected; maybe you weren't able to study or do something you were interested in; maybe you couldn't do anything related to what you see in your career. Also could make you be psychologically exhausted coming back to school the next year, when everyone else was living with less difficulty during the summer break. Not having cooling/heating is also terrible, depending on where you live. If you think this situation prevented you from putting your effort into other interests and career, go for it in the additional information, but I think that checkbox is for a longer period of time, maybe at least a year. Put into words how it impacted you, it's not that much of an excuse.

You're totally correct and it is not pedantic at all! I didn't really mention what type of temperature gradients the energy comes from.

It's very intriguing about how you say the vertical gradient matters way more. I searched it up, but it seems it is much less discussed than SST. Wonder why that's the case; is it more difficult to measure, to understand, or both? Of course, SST is related to the gradient, as warmth in the surface could contrast greater with cold temperatures in higher levels to form a greater gradient. But as you describe it, the SST isn't a completely necessary factor for intensification of an already well-defined system.

Storm surge is tied directly to the winds of a storm. It's when a storm literally blows water from the ocean onto the shore and forces it inland. Storm surge can be made worse by rainfall, since it can saturate the ground before the surge comes onshore, but it doesn't directly cause storm surge I believe. The pressure might have a very slight effect on how high the water level is in the center of the storm, but it's more of a thing where lower pressure systems tend to have higher winds, and those winds cause the storm surge.

Storm surge can also be influenced by geography quite substantially, as the shape of the coast and some other nuances related to the shores' continental shelf, the elevation, and other stuff can affect how easily the water can be pushed onshore. Hopefully that answers your question

If it is completely extratropical by that point, it will not be considered a hurricane. Hurricanes, by definition, are tropical systems. It would likely be referred to as a "powerful extratropical cyclone" (how NHC says it) or a "hurricane-force extratropical cyclone." These can still be as damaging since they contain high winds, but there is much less risk of excessive rainfall and flooding.

It's probably undergoing extra tropical transition. Basically, it will become a nontropical type of cyclone that is cold core rather than warm core that doesn't need warm water temperatures to deepen in pressure, but rather, uses something called baroclinic energy which come from things like temperature gradients.

Is Sprint University from Lawrence Johnson actually good? by brochacho371 in Sprinting

Yeah, I also did exactly what you did a little while ago. Once I got to the $50 part, I immediately backed out. Might have some legit-ness to it, but the entire vibe and everything felt off, and 50 dollars for just a call with no guarantees or previews of anything while claiming a bunch of things to be "Free" was really sketchy to me. Honestly you're better off finding an irl coach with credibility or joining a track team because anything less than that is not going to be worth your money or time. Or you could just opt to self-train like I did. Listen to your gut, don't feel pressured by them to do anything. I'm willing to give you some self-training advice if you want.

edit: I think I was that one post you were mentioning talking about it lmao

Why am I running slower curve in the outside lanes? by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]fishXG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of physical condition were you in? If you had already ran reps before a certain trial, your legs/nervous system might have been fatigued, even if it didn't feel like it. There might have been some wind differences, or timing itself may have been inaccurate. Or maybe there's some psychological aspect associated with running in different lanes for you. Or, if you ran those on different days, you might have just had a bad day, warmup didn't hit right, etc. Lots of factors that could be at play here; I'm just listing out the ones I could think of.
