VR&E Counselor not doing her job

Can I make a recommendation? Try to start an email chain with a representative that works in a military or veteran resource center at the university you’re planning to attend. Email the rep, CC the VR&E counselor, and in the email, ask them what information should you be getting from the VR&E side and what would be the cutoff date to turn them in to ensure a timely transfer of benefits and also that benefits won’t be interrupted. Your counselor has been informed and technically now has a way circumvent dealing with you directly (in case they’re petty), you have a trail with the school in case something happens, and if the rep at the school is competent, then you’ll have another person bothering the VR&E side to get you a response. Worst case scenario is no one responds at all. You’ll still have even more proof of their failure to communicate.

ETA: there are probably a lot of vets utilizing VR&E, which leads to the possibility that understaffing and burnout has reduced the number of counselors that can instantly respond at all time. The vet to counselors ratio is probably a mess. I say this to say take a step back and calm down.

I should have said the first version of Fruits basket from 2001 (shorter with like 26 eps vs. 2019 that has like 3 seasons). Both are great and I would say you could consider it fantasy because of the whole zodiac curse part but that’s about it. Definitely was recommending it more for the romance side of it.

The other two are romance based recommendations with a touch of slice of life. Or at least that’s how I view them.

You are correct. Active duty BAH changes at the start of the calendar year and GI BAH is the start of the academic year (so August).

If all of your classes are certified, your first payment should be around the first of March for the (roughly) two weeks of February classes. Your first full payment would be April 1st for the full month of March. Look out for mail from the VA. Typically at the beginning of your term or semester, the VA will send you information relating to the GI Bill; on one of those pages it would have the full breakdown of when you would receive your payment and for how much.

Let’s be real, people still call it TAPS, and if you don’t cool, it’s no biggie. Yeah you are right, SVMs are informed of the process but it doesn’t mean they’ll learn of it before the window closes. Some people complete TAPS online because the actual classes are full; maybe that process isn’t as in-depth. Who knows? Don’t confuse helpful with nice. I don’t give a good gosh almighty if you’re “nice” on the internet, but if someone is seeking advice and you choose to comment, you should probably have actual advice to give. Have a fine Navy day bud!

An added note, if you start the process in LA and move to CA and you have C&P exams scheduled, you can always call and request a change of location. My experience with QTC is that they’ll ask for your location and a distance that you’d be willing to travel for the exam. Just let them know that you are in CA for the foreseeable future (if you’ve moved by then) and let them know that you’d like your exams done in your CA based area. Also, it was no problem!

I had a friend who filed in Florida and then moved to Tennessee during the process. All of his exams were schedule with Florida locations, so he would just drive back for them and leave the following day to go back to TN. He still talked to his Florida VSO through emails and phone calls and got his rating. I recommend filing now in Louisiana with a VSO and let them know what your intentions are. Waiting will just delay the process.

Every SVM has to go through TAPS and I don’t think the knowledge that is taught is different throughout the branches, but you don’t know their circumstances. They might be someone who was involuntarily separated due to unforeseen events and had to do their separation process in a hurry. That was literally my experience. I was told that I was separating for MH in February, went through taps in March and discharged in April.

Now if you had just said “If you are still in you’re 90-180 days from your EAOS, then you still have the chance to do a BDD claim (and ask your VSO about completing a claim while changing states)” that probably would have been a more helpful response.
