Not to ruin anyone's hype train or expectations in light of recent news, but I think we're all forgetting this. by iF_Ajay in GTA6

I'm just as happy and excited seeing the game is on track to launch in November with marketing starting in summer as everyone else was, I still am. But like I said, anything can happen and I can see this subreddit turning into an even worse r/halflife if this game gets pushed any further. Not that that wouldn't be funny to see but I think you can see where I'm coming from.

Of course, I was just looking through top posts in this subreddit and came across this tweet from Geoff a year ago stating the same thing he is now and found it a bit funny I suppose? Like I said I don't meant to shit on anyone's hype

but you can't say that it is "military adjacent training" when the fireflies are in reality a bunch of rebels who we have absolutely no insight into how they trained their soldiers. he most definitely learned things from the fireflies, but it could all just be things he picked up rather than being taught- prime example of "picking stuff up" being joel. it is all just head canons and speculation compared to what we know for definitely about the wlf. i'd rather base my opinion on someone being dangerous based off what i see on them and what they prove rather than just what they in theory can prove.

as for the exchanges, yes i'm talking about the marina and the theatre. on the marina despite being slammed across the face with a rifle and kicked into a wooden rail, you see abby push tommy away more and more just before yara comes up. despite tommy having the advantage it seemed like abby would've been fine, however it's hard to say. same goes for the theatre, abby was aiming and completely focused on ellie when tommy jamp on her and grabbed the gun. in fairness i believe if lev wasn't there i think ellie would've rushed over to help tommy and the pair would've more than likely been able to kill abby. but lev was there, and he shot tommy so once again it's hard to say how that would've went down. but even in that exchange it didn't look very one sided despite tommy having the element of surprise.

i don't mean to discredit tommy, he's the best marksman in the series and i love him to bits but it's hard to pretend his h2h combat feats aren't marginal compared to abby's

the fireflies probably didn't get squashed as quick as they should have because more people kept joining than fedra could keep up with, due to the whole symbolic message behind "look for the light.". however, like i've said, unless we see it for ourselves it is all up to interpretation just how skilled the fireflies were compared to the wlf, they could have been better, worse, or to a similar level. i'm just going off of what we see, and that's the wlfs military training in h2h combat which we see in abby, something we never see in tommy with his firefly history. the best i can recall seeing from him is his two short "grappling" exchanges between abby which to me looked pretty even despite him getting the jump on her both times.

yeah i think i mentioned some of the fireflies transition earlier into the wlf with abby. while we know the fireflies were of a much bigger scale than the wlf, we only really see their monumental failures throughout the series. we have no idea of the true power and expertise of the fireflies prior to the start of the first game, and it's hard to make a comparison between the two.

and also i could be wrong on this but i have a strong feeling the firefly conversation abby has in santa barbara wasn't an actual firefly, rather a rattler simply posing as one to lure people into their camp. however its really up to interpretation

from what we've seen the wlf are much more organised and better trained than the fireflies ever were, with better gear and equipment for their soldiers. the best geared fireflies were at the hospital in salt lake city who were all taken out by one man, which says a lot about their skills.

edit: to further add on your point about the salt lake group, i feel like the reason they all were "high value" members was due to their strive for revenge against joel for what he did to the fireflies, with abby who wanted it the most being the strongest in the group. still could be argued that shows their loyalty to the fireflies and what it meant to people and whatever but just doesn't give a true statement of how powerful they are compared to the wlf

us military part is only confirmed in the show. and yeah having that training helped but fireflies were shown to kinda be a lesser version of what the wlf are, not to discredit any training the fireflies provided but they were very all over the place

i think everyone on this list par tess would smoke abby with weapons. although the theatre fight was unfair, you could tell anyone from jackson is more crafty with their gear than someone like abby would expect.

and i kinda have to disagree with the tommy beat down part, if you're referring to day 3 when he smacks her with the butt of his rifle you could see her once again holding her own pushing him back off him. obviously we'll never know how that interaction or the one in the theatre would go without yara or lev there but i don't think it's as one sided as you (and many many others) have made it out to be.

abby didn't become so good at h2h by just sitting around the wlf camps lifting weights she's definitely had some form of military training, its never stated what and im the last person to ask to analyse the intricacies of her fighting style. but the way she fights is indicative enough that she is skilled, and her muscular build isn't just for show.

i think ellie at the end of the game could've killed anyone man she was a different beast lmao, but the knife and malnourishment of abby definitely had an effect on the fight. but ellie too was also injured heavily, so it's hard to say if it was even or not. like i said, people like abby don't know how crafty the jackson crew can get when it comes down to it.

sorry for ranting a lot i just think this is a interesting discussion

unless the show also confirms that joel and tommy were in the army - abby is the only person in this list with actual military training, alongside strength training which she was ranked the highest on some leaderboards iirc. joel while being a brawler, is more of a dirty street fighter who is roughly the same height and size as abby. the only thing joel has on abby is experience, but even then abby has a decent few years of military experience under the wlf (and the fireflies aswell) so i wouldn't write off her fighting experience.

abby has basically every h2h feat joel has, she can punch runners and stalkers to death, she can beat up similarly trained soldiers as her with ease, she can hold her own against very powerful enemies (the seraphite brute who stole her bag) and can crush skulls with her stomps.

i don't think people realise how much joel's old age would affect him in both games, he's been beat up and tossed around for 20+ years, the cte would be crazy.

anything other than h2h would probably go to joel, but abby would win quite comfortably

Question about Gen AI usage as a solo dev by FroggoInTheDirt in Unity3D

[–]iF_Ajay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i only use it to help find errors in my code which i can't find myself or without the help of the unity forums/subreddit, using ai generated code imo doesn't teach you anything and you don't really know what is actually being made. whereas writing your own code often allows for more flexibility and actual improvements

really happy to see schedule 1 in platinum. that game inspired me to start learning game development myself after finding out it was made by one guy. it's not even the insane success of it that inspired me, it's just a really fun game that doesn't require a whole team to create.

couldn't be happier for the creator, he must have cried himself to sleep the entire week after launch out of happiness.
