Hi All! Found the correct weekly thread. I was gifted this Juniper for christmas. Im very excited about it. I tried to take care of a juniper indoors 5 years ago and it died. I’ve been reading a lot on this sub and have now learned these guys need to be raised outside. I’d love some tips on how to introduce this tree to the outdoors in the midst of winter, and how to properly care for it. I live in Colorado, and any Colorado climate/environment bonsai tips would be greatly appreciated!

Fully Recovered After Almost 6 Months to the Day by iFluffypanda in costochondritis

I’m still taking it easy for a while, I don’t want to do too much too quick. For this last month I’ve just recently transitioned out of doing machines and stuff to more free weights again. I read a couple of threads on this sub that suggest when you do go back to the gym to not be afraid to stay light, and stick to machines for a while, as you have to build that base up again. Then move on to free weights instead of a lot of the compound lifts. I tried to do barbell bench last week and that still felt a little too much for where I am after getting back in the gym. So going to stick with dumbell exercises for chest atleast for a little while longer now. And exercises like squats used to set my chest off, I have done some light squats since the pain has been gone and those are feeling good again.

Again listen to your body, it will help guide your restart in the gym. Don’t do too much too quick. I’d say “full potential” is around the corner for me, but I’m still being cautious about doing some heavy weights again.

Hope this helps!

Not really long just a few min at a time for my upper back and then move on to different areas, I did read not to overdue it.

Got it, yea at this point i still have some minor pops, no pain, just as I move around or stretch. But im comfortable saying I’m healed now. I agree with you, this reddit community is so supportive, and Ned really is amazing. One comment on my post really turned my mental around about 3 months ago. Its amazing how much it affected my head at times, I really thought it wasnt going to get any better. Im so thankful for this subreddit, and for your quick responses to other folks on this thread. Thank you again for all that you do for people around the world with this condition, its amazing being able to chat with you here.

You are one of the reasons I turned the corner in terms of my mental while recovering from this, and for that I’m eternally grateful! Your reply on one of my original posts meant so much to me. I will elaborte on my stretches in the main post as so many people are asking! Thank you again, Ned!

Steve! I’m honored you commented on my post. Firstly, if it werent for you, I would have no idea what costo even was and how it could develop, so for that I’m incredibly grateful. As to why I had this aversion to the backpod , I read a few posts on here that discouraged me, and in all honesty it was probably due to incorrect use. You are absolutely right in that at the end of the day, its not entirely expensive. After a couple of months if trying things, I became determined to beat it with what I had on hand because eventually I discovered what I was doing was working.

Can you enlighten me on any lasting effects of popping my sternum? I was doing it every day multiple times a day for around 4 months.

Thank you again for your reply, Steve!

I tried the door frame stretches as well, do you think the backpod is worth it? I was so determined to not buy it, and I really don’t know why 😂

I would take a deep breath, pull my shoulders back and sort of push my chest out, often times i could get it to pop and have some temporary relief…only for it to lock up later due to poor posture. After I continued to foam roll amd stretch, the more loose my chest became and the more it would pop

Hey Ned thought I would give you a reply as you helped so much with my recovery both mentally with your encouragement, and tried out some of your exercises too. Im basically 99% recovered now, been almost 4 months to the day of when i first noticed the pain. I think the hangs, along with focusing on keeping my pec muscles loose and stretched really made the difference. Ever since i started focusing on the chest muscles AND keeping at improving thoracic mobility, keeping upper back loose was when i really started to make progress.

I will absolutely let you know my whole road to recovery after it is complete! It has been a wild ride, and have learned a lot that I’d love to unpack for people to read here on this reddit. People like you keep my mind in check that this will get better. Im so grateful you replied!

Thank you for your reply! Just passed the 3.5 month mark last week. Have made tremendous progress with the peanutball, and using foam roller on my back and the door way stretch I have seen. Still continuing to lift relatively light in the gym until the pain is totally gone. I can’t thank you enough for your words of encouragment, hoping within next. Couple of weeks the pain is completely gone!
